Building a Lost Dwarven Kingdom

Hi everyone. I am in the planning stages of a continuing campaign based in The North of the Forgotten Realms. All of the characters are around 14th level and I am looking for this second part of the campaign to reach Epic Levels.

In keeping with the obvious cliche of fantasy literature, one of my players is playing a dwarf that is looking to reestablish a lost dwarven kingdom. In this instance, it is a the old dwarven kingdom of Delzoun. What I am looking for are any ideas, resources, or products that could help me further flesh out the lost kingdom and its ruins.

Several surface dwarven citadels related to Delzoun are somewhat fleshed out through the Silver Marches supplement and the FR Campaign book. What I am more interested in are the vast underground parts of the kingdom. There are ideas alluded to in the aforementioned books about Delzoun, but really it is piecemeal information at this point.

So what would you recommend to help me flesh out the kingdom in more detail? And I am looking for any type of dwarven kingdom detail that is out there, not just FR-specific material. The intention is to have the party explore the ruins of the kingdom at various spots, but otherwise I haven't really thought through what they might accomplish as of yet. Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks!

Look for a copy of the old Middle-Earth Role-Playing module Mines of Moria. It has a cool random map generator, along with a lot of cool ideas.

Is this a populated dwarven kingdom, or not?

I drew up a huge dungeon that I used for my last campaign. It was an underground dwarven citadel that I populated with lots and lots of undead (mostly shadows), which made parts of it particularly frightening. I think the party was about 14th level or so when they were in it.

The maps are at home I think. I'm at work now. If you want them, I can send them your way on Wednesday or so, when I'll have my internet access set up.

I think it's about 4 levels deep, and the bottom level is a graveyard. Parts of it aren't fully detailed, so you'd have to add some stuff to it.

Thanks Die Kluge, that sounds very cool. The intention is to populate the lost dwarven ruins so what you are offering is the type of thing I am looking for.

I have heard that the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords has a pretty detailed dwarven underground area, but I currently do not have it. Does anyone know what this module comprises? Thanks again.

The Dragon Mountain boxed set might serve for maps.

The old Mayfair Role-Aids book on Dwarfs might prove useful, too. IIRC, it included a city for some system.

Even WotC's Forge of Fury could make do for parts of the city (an outer stronghold, perhaps).

Dungeon magazine has run a handful of Dwarf-themed adventures in its time, but it would take a more devoted gamer than I to run down the issues and adventure titles.

If you go to the Wizards website and find the old Map-A-Week column, one of the first ones was the set of maps from The Axe of the Dwarvish Lords. I d/led them and didn't know where they were from until I bought the adventure off eBay. It's your lucky day:Here they are. Enjoy!
