Build types?

RandomCitizenX

First Post
I was talking to my wife and our friend who rents from us about their characters and what they plan on playing and ended up on the topics of various build types. This made me realize that we only know a handful of the official builds as follows(not sure on all of the official names):

Rogue: Brawny (Str) or Tricky (Cha)
Ranger: Ranged or Two Weapon Fighting
Warlock: Fey, Infernal, Primal, or Star Pacts (maybe with more)
Warlord: Tactical (Int) or Inspiring (Cha)

So what do you think will be the build options for Fighters, Clerics, Paladins, and Wizards? It has been hinted that Fighters are going to have builds based on their weapons, but how specific will it be? Will Cleric and Paladin builds be based purely around the deity they serve? Will wizard builds be tied to the organizations from the older wizard preview?

Well, based on the two Paladin PPs shown on that PHB picture (P PPs in the PHB P?), I'd guess that Paladin builds will be between a healing-focus and a combat focus. Hospitaller is decidedly healing-oriented, while Justicar is all about laying down the holy smack. The other classes, well.... no idea... :)

I thought the four Warlock pacts were Fey, Inferal, Star, and Vestige. And I'm not sure that the Warlock's pacts will be exactly like the builds, because that might lead to a lot of nonsensical secondary stats for the Warlock.

I'm having some trouble thinking of different builds for the Wizard.

Guesses:

Cleric: Battle Priest (Str) or Charismatic Priest
Paladin: Champion (Str) or Stalwart (Wis)
Wizard: Sage (Wis) or ?? (Cha)
Fighter: By Weapon Type -- weapon and Shield vs. Two Handed, possibly others. I'm guessing fighters don't have ranged or TWF builds, in favor of the ranger.

I don't think that every class will have builds based on stats. The pacts were from some earlier info which I think may have also said something about Shadow as well. Where did Vestige come from?

I think primal and fey were being used as synonyms at one point during early previews. I'm also not sure that Vestige survived to the final version.

Fey is definitely in (preview character), Star is in (doomshaper) and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't chuck infernal out since that was the starting point for the class. More may show up in Arcane Power, whenever that gets published. (Next year?)

The playtest Cleric is focused on ranged, single-target radiant damage/buffs/debuffs, so, I'm guessing that that is the basis for one of the builds. I'm guessing the other will be a Battle Priest.

That's quite possible. We haven't heard anything about a Vestige pact in awhile. If it's not in, that'll disappoint a friend of mine who's having a lot of fun playing a Binder in a 3.5 campaign right now (not that we intend to stop our campaign when 4e is released).

Sounds about right.
