Build me a 5th level Half-Orc Warrior

Mercurius

Legend
Any class, although Fighter is probably preferable, Ranger secondarily so--but I'm open to anything. I like the idea of being able to use many different weapons, although especially big swords and axes, maybe interchangeably.

Ability Scores (not including racial and level bonuses): 18, 17, 14, 14, 12, 10

AP, Ruffling sting, Jaws of the wolf, Off hand strike, Furious Assault, and Hunter's quarry dice is tasty. Probably too optimized, though.

I don't have the Character Builder file available, but my half-orc spiked-chain tempest fighter works really, REALLY well. I'll go ahead and attach the PDF of his sheet. :)

He controls a lot of battlefield all at once, and can move creatures an astonishing amount with Footwork Lure. While reach weapons aren't always ideal for Fighters, it works. Planned development is the Level 8 Spiked Chain Multiclass Utility swap which lets me enter a stance for threatening reach, and then the Polearm Master PP (which works with any reach weapon, not just a polearm), giving me another instance of the same Stance and extends my Combat Challenge to my full reach.

And if double weapon and tempest fighter scream CHEESE too loudly for you, use a whip and scourge.

When I read Half-Orc warrior and 'big axe' in one sentence, I can't help but think of a Barbarian (it may be related to the fact that one of the first D&D chars I saw in action, and awesomely so, was a half-orc barbarian). Now, with your stats, you can set up a pretty amazing example. This is a possible level 5 build; note that I kept myself to the item limitations of the DMG for high level chars (like most people in this thread); if you can get a better weapon, Bloodclaw or Reckless would really up your damage.

This guy is has some feats and powers invested in charges, which as a half-orc avenger can cover a scary amount of distance. On top of that there's a lot of teleport powers (to help you get into the right position) and punishment for opponents who try and help their friends. I didn't give him a good weapon, and dynamic weapons aren't that good for avengers (you don't really want reach), but it fits the desire to use whatever you want. He'd be better with either a full blade or executioner's axe.

Half-Orc Barbarian | Sorcerer

Half-Orc Barbarian | Sorcerer is fun and and versatile Striker with excellent mobility and a variety of attacks. This build is optimized to hit multiple enemies each turn with an At-Will close blast attack and an Encounter that targets up to three enemies within 2 squares and another that targets two adjacent enemies. Best of all is the level 5 Daily, Thunder Leap which is a close blast followed by a jump and a second close blast.

HP is less than a straight Barbarian or Fighter, but it works fine if there is a Defender and a Leader in the party.

Give it a try, you might be surprised how much fun this style is compared to a straight melee warrior.
