Legend
In older editions of D&D, Blue Dragons were primarily found in deserts. They buried themselves deep in the sand by night, and flew against the blue sky by day.

In 4e, they became storm dragons who live along coastlines, swimming and flying across the stormy seas to capsize vessels for their treasure.

BLUE: Seas, coasts, and islands
BROWN: Deserts, rubble, and dunes

Why?
Because the superior brown dragons kicked the blues out.

Desert for me.

There's always been something so visually appealing about a blue dragon in the desert to me. It's probably got something to do with the color contr-

...

Oh nuts....

How about a third option: Places where days with clear blue skies are the norm.

The Blue Dragon is an aerial hunter, and its blue scales and slight electric glow are intended to camouflage it against clear blue skies whether over sea, sand, or even grassland.

I'd prefer that the blue dragon go back to being a desert-dweller. I never cared too much for the 4e change, though it was never that big of a deal for me.

Change for the sake of change? No thanks. Blue dragons are in the desert. Black dragons are in swamps. White dragons are on glaciers. Silver dragons on the street but you don't know it. It's just their home terrain anyway; dragons can be found anywhere if they have a mind to be. Next question.

I moved them seaward back in 1e days, the desert never made any sense. Blue Dragons against the brown background? Using power that exists there least of all?Evolutionary idiocy. Island and clouded, coastal peaks with the storms they share their power with, able to (somewhat) blend against both sky and sea is where they've been for four editions in my game worlds.

Forest. Green dragons live in the forest. BLACK dragons live in the swamp.
