D&D 5E Blood Hunter: Thoughts?

Going to be starting a new campaign later in the year. Anyone have experience allowing Blood Hunters into their campaigns? Power level? Complications?
I'm allowing them in my Ravenloft game, at least tentatively. My only concern is that they feel like a Pathfinder 1e class using 5e rules, very complicated and not for new or casual players. But in the right hands, they seem fun.

They're not overpowered, and not underpowered. They drip theme, but the theme is a bit specific. If you plan to use them, I'd build them up and give them a specific role in your world. Unless you do this, the Blood Hunter PC will feel a bit awkward amongst the others PCs (in my experience).

Blood Hunter is a very "moderately powered" class, from what i can tell (and the subclass everyone wants to play, Lycan Order, doubly so). I've never had anyone ask to play it but I'd probably allow it. It's "complicated" for a martial class, but less so than most any spellcaster.

The "new" (is it really new at this point?) 2020 version smooths out a lot of the quirks people may have had with the original, Half-Pathfinder version, so use that one, rather than the original.

Blood Hunter tends to slightly underperform, in exchange for a neat gimmick and excellent thematics. Order of the Lycan is probably the strongest of the subclasses, but even so it won't threaten your table with anything outrageous.

My only experience with Blood Hunters was with Mollymauk on Critical Role's Campaign 2. I agree that the concept just drips with possibility, but Blood Maledict can come bite you in the bottom. I DO like the gamble aspect of taking damage to fire off your powers, but without the right party mix it can go bad quick, I'd say.
