Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

I would not say it is the best but I think it might be worth at least mentioning Unbreakable. Pretty clearly a superhero movie, albeit one that is basically all origin story and no suiting up.
Definitely my favorite M. Knight film. Just edges out The Sixth Sense because of how much I love superhero stories.

Identifiable villains? Check.
Sacrifice to help people? Check.

I don't see the conflict.

So generic you could add that into multiple genres. WW2 movies.

Supernatural/technology abilities don't make a superhero either. Superhero movies of course can use them.

If the source material is a super hero comic it's a big clue.

Batman's gadgets or Iron Man's essentially give them super hero powers as they're essentially magic.

By some folks definitions in this thread, OG 1939 Superman is not a superhero. And if your definition does that, it's wrong.

OTOH, by a ton of definitions 1940s Batman simply isn't a superhero; he's a detective. He was more a contemporary of The Saint or Dick Tracy, not The Shadow. Even his rogues gallery were all normal humans. He didn't really start to become a superhero until the 60s. That's not a fault, it's just an evolution of the character.

Except, of course, for the fact that 1940s Batman occasionally hung out with Superman and the two solved crimes in tandem.

Are you sure?

If you make a television series set in the Marvel universe but it has no superheroes (or even regular heroes, to make this really clear) is it still a superhero show?

Like a sitcom where folks just name drop supers while having dinner or something? Marvel universe is in background but has no impact on the characters? No, I wouldnt consider that a super hero show.
