Best drow city supplement

My campaign is slowly leading my pcs towards a lengthy adventure in a drow city. As such, I was wondering if you could help me find the best supplement describing such a city. As I play 4e , if the supplement is for that edition that is even better, but it is not required. Ideally I would like to have a complete map of the city as well ...

"Best" is a rather nebulous term. You'll find people who will prefer classic settings and light detail saying the Vault of the Drow in D3 (and later revisited in Dragon magazine) is the best. And some people who prefer much more detail will prefer one of the Forgotten Realms drow cities.

What, exactly, are you loooking for?

Well I am not looking for an adventure since I am preparing my own. I am more interested in a mini setting wch I can use to place my adventure in.

It's been ages since I looked at it, and admittedly, "it" is referring to one of those miniature reproductions of old TSR books and boxed sets that were floating around a few years ago (you almost need a magnifying glass to read the text), but Menzoberranzan seems like it'd be a pretty good bet for a setting. A fair number of the old 2e box sets have a lot more fluff than crunch, so you're not really tossing out that much to give you a good backdrop for adventures that you're writing yourself.

Another good Underdark adventure, though not at all drow-centered, is Night Below. There's some good ideas for underdark encounters in there.

The AD&D 2E box set Menzoberranzan is the most comprehensive that I'm aware of and is a good product. There was also a third-party 3.x product called Sheoloth (I think), but I never owned it so can't really comment. I would also recommend the 3E hardcover Drow of the Underdark for general info and lots of good stuff, but again, in terms of an actual city, you won't find a better product than Menzoberranzan.

Depending on power levels and "schtick" or theme...

Sheoloth (Mongoose publishing) is wicked and very high level (3e).
Tome of Drow Lore and Encyclopaedia Arcane, Drow Magic are good supplements by the same publisher.

Dezzavold (Green Ronin) is centered around a drow fortress, but is really city feeling. I believe it's around lvl 14, but that's going from memory. (3e)
(Plot and Poison is a drow sourcebook compatible with this, also from Green Ronin).

Menzoberranzan (TSR) is pretty dang awesome (2e). Supplements include Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark and The Drow of the Underdark.

I reccomend against Fantastic Locations, Fane of the Drow (3e)...it's short, an adventure, and not that interesting...but has good maps. Drow of the Underdark, by WotC, was pretty good.

There are also several drow adventures out there that my have cities within. They might be worth mining.

Apart from all that, I'm not aware of any major drow resources, and would love to be informed of any.

Yup, that's where I'd go if I suddenly had a hankerin' for Drow. Even though it has Drizzt and Forgotten Realms attached to it you can pretty easily strip it out and land it in almost any fantasy setting you choose. It is also one of the easier TSR boxes to find.

A smaller outpost as well as a city are described in the 3e adventure City of the Spider Queen. The chapter on the outpost gives quite some detail of the organization of a drow settlement and the dark elves' relation to other underdark races. The city is - at the time of the adventure- undergoing a schism with civil war-like effects.

Probably not so fitting for your purposes, but offering some cool ideas.

These are good, more recent additions to all of the old TSR material.
