Saw this tonight.

I'm not going to say it was perfect. But it may be the best long-awaited sequel I have ever seen. Other contenders would be Fantasia 2000, Mad Max Fury Road, and... that might be the complete list.

If you appreciate the original (and let's be clear, the original is frickin' weird in multiple ways) you should appreciate this. Highly recommended.

I just finished watching about an hour ago and I think Ghostbusters: Afterlife was better than Beetlejuicex2 when it comes to long-awaited sequels. So while Beetlejuicex2 was okay, like Delia I found myself missing the obnoxious teenage goth girl that Lydia Deetz use to be, rather than the traumatised, slightly burnt out 52 yr old she has become or her cynical gen-z daughter (even the spectacularly self absorbed yuppie Delia has become muted with old age). Its all a bit depressing, especially when everybody else is dead!

The pacing is weird and the extra plotlines (Delores, Richard, Delia) dont really add anything to the story and eventually dont go anywhere interesting - and even though they do try to give us a bigger musical number, the Banana Boat-Lobster scene is still the best scene in the whole franchise.

That seems harsher criticism than it should be, I did enjoy it - but my nostalgic love of the first movie might be tainting things....

Given the movie a little thread necromancy may be entirely appropriate but I just watched this and I do feel like they had enough material here that could have been split between this and the presumed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Can you imagine a Beetlejuice/Ghostbusters crossover though? That would be nuts, XD .

Add in Casper and we've got a real ghost-verse on our hands.

More seriously: I agree that this movie needed to cut at least two b-plots. Too much time was spent with major characters off screen. It felt disjointed because of it.

Oh man my daughter (age 13) would be so down for that! She adores the two recent Ghostbusters movies, went dressed as Phoebe from Ghostbusters for Halloween, and saw the new Beetlejuice movie 5 times.
