Barsoomian Longsword

For those in the know. In Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars series of books would you consider the Martian Longsword as a rapier or a longsword per D&D rules.

It's been a while, but isn't the Barsoomian longsword analogous to a US cavalry saber? In which case I'd consider it a D&D longsword.

Yes, I think so, although I would seriously consider a D&D scimitar for the same reason.

I'm with Mr. Dyal; if it's supposed to be analogous to a cavalry saber, the scimitar's the way I'd go.
 


I have always pictured them as long thin straight blades myself.
