Barkskin and Stacking Question?

How does Barkskin work now?

Do you add the bonus to Base 10 and then other options of that type don't stack, in essence any creature with natural armor of more than +2 does not get a benefit from the spell....

OR...

Does this not stack with natural armor bonuses, say from an amulet of natural armor?

OR...

Creature Natural Armor IS Natural Armor and they don't stack.

Something here doesn't stack up... :)

Here is the spell from the SRD:

Barkskin
Transmutation
Level: Drd 2, Rgr 2, Plant 2
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Living creature touched
Duration: 10 min./level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)
Barkskin toughens a creature’s skin. The effect grants a +2 enhancement bonus to the creature’s existing natural armor bonus. This enhancement bonus increases by 1 for every three caster levels above 3rd, to a maximum of +5 at caster level 12th.
The enhancement bonus provided by barkskin stacks with the target’s natural armor bonus, but not with other enhancement bonuses to natural armor. A creature without natural armor has an effective natural armor bonus of +0.

Thanks again,

It seems pretty clear to me. It works just like the Magic Vestment spell, but with regard to natural armor bonuses instead of armor bonuses. It 'stacks' with a creature's base natural armor (as an enhancement bonus to the natural armor bonus), but not with other enhancement bonuses (eg. an amulet of natural armor). So, a creature with a base natural armor bonus of +4 with an amulet of natural armor +1 would have a +5 natural armor bonus; if Barkskin was then cast on it at the +3 level, it would have a natural armor bonus of +7; +4 base, plus +3 (the better of the two overlapping enhancement bonuses).

eh .. did you read the last paragraph

The enhancement bonus provided by barkskin stacks with the target’s natural armor bonus, but not with other enhancement bonuses to natural armor. A creature without natural armor has an effective natural armor bonus of +0.

Yeah, I saw that and I thought I understood, but I just pulled this from these boards (and I can't find the post now) and emailed it to a friend.

Barkskin changed slightly, down to +2 enhancement bonus, but this now stacks with a natural armor bonus.

This is why I asked, it didn't seem to make sense to me. I suppose you can't believe everything you read...

Keep Natural Armor and bonus to NA separated: two things which grant a NA don't stack with each other; two things which grant an enhancement bonus to NA don't stack with each other; the best NA stacks with the best enhancement bonus to NA, and eventually with other types of bonus to NA.

Barkskin grants an enhancement bonus to NA, so it stack with the racial NA if any. It also stacks with the enhancement bonus to Armor by the way, for example if you were a +1 armor on top.
