Background music playlists

How many of you use background music in your gaming sessions? I have found them to be an excellent way to create a strong atmosphere, much in the same way as underscore works in a film context. I have actually composed quite a lot of custom music and material for different campaigns and built some playlists for generic use. If you are a spotify user you can find such playlists as

atmospheric elven themed ambiences
more generic calm fantasy ambiences
epic / dramatic battle music
dark and eerie tension driven
middle eastern / arabian atmospheres
nordic / pagan / viking ambiences

just to name a few. My original fantasy music project is called Celestial Aeon Project - lots of stuff to come in future as well!

I like a lot of the Dark Ambient stuff that Cryo Chamber puts out on Youtube. I also use some stuff by Heilung (norse/germanic pagan stuff). I have some generic sound field stuff like rain, swamp and forest too, although I don't recall offhand who by, I just stroll through youtube until I find something I like, then I download it.

We often have "Music from the Hearts of Space" playing in the background; it's mostly ambient-type music with a central theme for any given hour. With access to the full back catalog, there's usually something appropriate to the theme of that day's adventure session.

My group doesn't use background music (FLGS is already noisy) but when my Arcane Trickster went sneaking off to rescue kidnap-ees while the rest of the group created a Big Noisy Diversion (read: got into a brawl), I wanted to be able to play the 007 theme when my turn came up.

Various flavors of Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, Yoko Kanno, Yuki Kajiura, Hiroyuki Sawano, Keiji Inai....

I prefer classical music in the background. Although I also usually find music distracting. Certainly I always mute the music bot which DMs on discord love using.

I use music in games all the time, generally preferring tracks with no lyrics. They're either MP3's I've ripped from my album collection, or playlists built in Youtube or using programs like Tabletop Audio or Syrinthsound. The latter two not only do music, but atmospherics and sound boards.

I was playing a LE Gnome fighter and I believe my background gave me a musical instrument so I took Pan Flute. I found a video on Youtube of "Zamfir Plays All Your Favorites" such as, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and who can forget Stairway to Heaven!! Every time my turn came up I started cranking me some Master of the Pan Flute. Needless to say they all knew whose turn it was when that music came on.
