has anyone seen a game that matches up in fun and quickness to this one?

i bought some 'Cheapass Games' products while in london, and i was severely disappointed.

what is out there for 2 folks that is short and fun, and semi-rpgish?

If you can find some of the old Microgames, they fit the bill. I particularly enjoyed 'Undead'. Have you tried any of the SJGames card games, like 'Chez Geek'? 'Lunch Money' is also fun (and a little creepy).

I'd recommend "Before I Kill You Mr. Bond." It's not quite RPG-sih, but the very nature of the game promotes strange eeeeeeevil accents and maniacal laughter.

Cheapass Games have been a bit of a mixed bag, IMHO. Before I Kill You Mr Bond is good, but some others are a little too convoluted or unclear.

Edit, added: There's also Chez Geek and Munchkin, a lot of fun but the games can be over rather quickly and they are a bit more expensive.

I hated Awful Green Things From Outer Space with a passion. :D

Out of curiosity, which Cheap Ass games did you try? I've found them to be mixed bag, but generally worth the minimal outlay they require. I particularly like The Great Brain Robbery, which is a solid and fun little boardgame.

Edit: somehow I missed that you were looking for 2-person, semi-RPG-like games, so I deleted all of my irrelevant recommendations. :o

I like Zombies!!! by uh, Twilight Games? They just changed companies. It's playable with 2 people, prolly more fun with 3 or 4, but it's simple, and you can put a lot of characterization into the "shotgun guys" as they scramble to reach the helicopter pad before they get chewed on.

i got 2, one based on building a space station, adn one called "bitin' off heads" that was about dinosaurs throwing themselves into a lava pool suicidally.

both looked ot be much more fun if you had many folks, but with 2 they were a bit lame.\

I hate Zombies. I love the little zombie figures, but I find it lacks gameplay. I'm in the minority, though.

Two people is tough. I'll check my selection and see what I can come up with.

Two additional Cheapass games that I have somewhat enjoyed:

Kill Dr. Lucky (I have not played Save Dr. Lucky)
Unexploded Cow

Again, for 4 bucks, it is really hard to argue with any Cheapass game... They are quick, easy to learn and overall fairly enjoyable -very much in line with AGTFOS

I am in full agreement with PC.

The one game of Zombies that I played was excrutiatingly tedious...

A good two player game that I would recommend is the Starfarers of Catan card game (not the big boxed 4 player game). It's fun, interesting and plays in about an hour and a half.

Not so sure about roleplaying potential though...

It's pretty hard to find a good 2-player game. I can name lots of great 3-5 player games, but 2 is hard. Awful Green Things was lots of fun though, and it may still be in print in its new VCR-box edition.

Java, by Rio Grande, is a decent game for 2 players. It's really much better with 3 or 4, but you can get by without.

What's really a shame is that Snit's Revenge is long out of print. Hopefully someone will bring it back onto the market one of these days...
