AVP Trailer

The original script written in 89 or 90 was a really damn good script. I read the whole thing and it was just jumping with intense action and good character dialogs, but of course this is not the movie based on that script. The script got scrapped in 91, but the script was based entirely on the original AvP comic strip, and somewhere I read that they didn't want the movie based on the comic stript to that degree (go figure, if they had made it, it would have been good)...but also at that time the Predator 2 movie flopped and so did Alien 3, and they felt it wasn't a good time to make the movie.....and they were probably right.

The movie was practically dead for many years until the success of the video games, that's when they thought of bringing the movie back out, but then the problem came down to who will direct, write the script, how much it will cost, the usual snafoos of making a movie (I guess) and it took a few years for them to figure out all this.

So this movie isn't based on the comics or the novels, big deal. I read the first Alien trilogy and the first couple predator novels, I didn't like them at all. This movie is about two alien species who hate each other and hunt each other, and it just happens that we get in the middle of it this time around...I'm all for that and I don't care about continuity with novels, comics, or even the original films.

I want this to be a good movie, and stand on its own merits, and I think that is what it will do.

Did they flop at the theaters? They've certainly taken on a bit of a life of their own since then; Predator 2 is still considered a classic sci-fi action movie by most today.

Yeah, they flopped big time at the theatres. I can understand why 3 did I guess since they killed one of the most loved characters in a really cheesy way "oh, well he died in space before you landed, sorry" I never understood why P2 failed so badly though, it was pretty solid. I guess it was just a combintation of people who liked the first one was disapointed sometimes in how this one came across and people who hated the first one weren't interested in this one at all. I am hoping this new one will invigorate the series again. I don't really care which direction they go, I just always liked the idea of someday seeing marines and predators back to back taking the earth back over. You can see in the ending of 4 where in the original script the ship was supposed to make it to earth and usher in the next chapter. Aliens 4 is almost identical to one of the comics, but I don't know if that was intentional or not, and have no feelings either way.

I am waiting for this movie and wanting to see it more and more as i talk about it and am *REALLY* looking forward to sky captain

BTW, do you know any good Predator or Alien websites, where those of us who weren't able to make it through all the novels can get summaries of the state of the Predator/Alien universes according to Dark Horse/Spectra?

That's actually a good question. I grew up with fangoria, sci-fi quarterly, fantasy literature magazine, wizard, and cinema. Haven't found any really good websites, then again I haven't been looking lately, most of my past time in that area for the last few years has been hellraiser. I know there are two really good hardback coffeetable books dedicated to the subject and one extremely good aliens ct book that does a lot of interesting information up with artwork and stuff.

Will also give you this much, I actually flipped through the original avp comic at the bookstore tonight and wow....it was kinda hack, lol. I still enjoy the novels and the comics but I do see where you are coming from. I hadn't read it since I was in middle school so that is prolly one of the reasons I remember it as being better. Course I also was watching predator tonight on cable and felt the same way, heh was there even a real script to that movie?

If you find a good website let me know. Most of my information was pieced together from the novels, the comics and the video games.

I'm pretty sure I remember some sites from a few years ago, but I wasn't able to relocate them.

Oddly enough, I just rewatched both the Predator movies this weekend while my wife was out with her sister, and I still though they both held up pretty well! :)
