Someone needs to edit in a
SPOILERS tag to the thread name...
I know!
I havent read the comic and I was really suprised they did that, it was a "Oh dang, how do they get out of this!" moment for me.
This is really how the
Infinity Gauntlet comic begins. Thanos starts
Infinity Gauntlet with all six stones and is deciding what to do.
That's the conflict in the first of the six issues, with the real story occurring after.
It gets worse after. In issue 3 they assemble a team of all the surviving heroes. Who then make a charge at Thanos. Who then proceeds to brutally take them out one by one in creative and unique fashions.
Much like how he used the Reality gem on Drax and Mantis. (Which actually made the final scene kinda anticlimactic in comparison.)
That said though I think that overall there was so much happening that it didnt have time to develop the really gut wrenching OMG! feels that the cliffhanger could have achieved, indeed it seemed a bit too surreal.
I think too much tragedy would have made it a hard movie to watch and walk out of. Already people seem a little stunned at what happened.
The best non-spoilery example would be Pepper pleading with Tony to give up the suit in favour of wedded bless, Tony of course goes back and from then Pepper is largely forgotten...
That's how the movie should start. Dealing with the personal tragedy. Assessing the losses.
While also reminding people what had happened. Catching people back up after the year.
The neat part of this, is it allows the next film to be smaller. This one was big and massive with all hands on deck (except Hawkeye and Antman).
Avengers 4 can really focus on Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. The heroes who survived and will be "retiring" after that movie because the actor's contracts are up. It can be their swan song.
