Arrows of Tracking.

These +1 arrows always come in pairs. One of them is fired at a target and the wielder makes a ranged touch attack. The arrowhead breaks off from the shaft and sinks into the target creature and passes through it without doing any damage and stays embedded as far into the creature as possible. The target creature can avoid the arrowhead from embedding itself by making a fortitude save (DC=10+attack bonus). The target creature gains a bonus on its save equal to its size bonus. Thus, a small creature gains a +1 on its save whereas a Collosal creature gains a -8 on its save.
If the creature fails its save, there is nothing that can get rid of the arrow, save for a heal spell or similar or and more powerful magic.
Once the arrowhead is imbedded the other arrow flies towards the target creature at a speed of 30 to 300 feet per round (wielder's choice, can be changed mentally as a standard action), always pointing directly at the target creature no matter the elevation or direction.

Once it comes within 5 feet of the target creature, it hovers in place until a command word is given by the wielder at which point it shoots towards the embedded arrowhead as if the wielder shot it himself.

The tracking arrow only works if the target creature is on the same plane as it is. If the target creature leaves the plane the wielder is on then the tracking arrow falls to the floor just after it gives a short, sometimes cryptic description of which plane the target creature went to. If the tracking arrow and the target creature are on the same plane again later on the tracking arrow resumes its flight.

Now, my question: How much should a pair of these arrows cost? I was thinking around 500-1500gp a pair.

What do you guys think?

OK -- here's two: you mention a "heal spell" -- do you mean the spell heal, or any healing spells (cure light wounds, etc.)? Also, can the second (non-imbedded) arrow actually be used to track the creature, or does it just fly towards it? In other words, can the shooter hold the second arrow and use it as a dowsing rod of sorts to track down the target of the first arrow?

Yeah, i like the idea of the first arrow being embedded as a tracking beacon for the second arrow, but I see how it is starting to get interesting already. It could get more interesting by having the second arrow have a True Strike ability to hit if shot at the original target, or act like a slaying arrow so that the original mark must constantly be on the run to avoid the deadly shot... and so many other possibilities for adventures.

As far as cost I would say it would be equal to a 'Find Object' spell cast on one arrow to only find the other, so perhaps the price wouldn't be that high as long as the second arrow didn't have any other capabilities added to it.
