Armor Spikes with enchant Defending

Hi guys (first post and all)

I read somewhere that you can enchant your armor/shield spikes with defending, and basically get two additional sources of AC that stack with everything else (even another defending enchant on your main weapon). My DM doubts that as being possible, but I'm sure I saw it somewhere. Regardless of source, is this possible? I would use spells to buff my spikes' enchantment bonus, which then would translate into more AC.

Any opinions are welcome.

Defending, Weapon enchantment
A defending weapon allows the wielder to transfer some or all of the sword’s enhancement bonus to his AC as a bonus that stacks with all others. As a free action, the wielder chooses how to allocate the weapon’s enhancement bonus at the start of his turn before using the weapon, and the effect to AC lasts until his next turn.

Moderate abjuration; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, shield or shield of faith; Price +1 bonus.

Unless you are going to use the spikes, you do not get an AC bonus from them.

so unless I attack with both the spikes and my main weapon in the same round I won't be getting the full bonus? The guy writing the cleric guide on brilliantgameologists.com should be hung.

for a source, quoting the SRD (emphasis mine):

[/FONT]So yes you need to use the spikes.

You can "use" a melee weapon just by readying it, but spiked armor is only "used" when you grapple or make a strike (when it counts as a light martial weapon). If you look under magic definitions, you'll see that use items are defined in the rules, and you must either use the item in its normal fashion or take some kind of ready action to benefit from it.
