Arcane spellcaster with sneak attack

Hi there.

In the Unearthed Arcana there is a fighter class variant that gains sneak attack as a rogue but loses all his bonus feats. I wonder if it's possible to create a (balanced) wizard variant with sneak attack. There are a few things to remove, such as familiar, bonus feats, scribe scroll. Sneak Attack a very powerful ability though, so I think it'd be fair to add a few prohobited schools of magic, to reflect all the spell levels he'd lose if he multiclassed with rogue. Ideas?

Thanks.

I dislike variant Base Classes. However, the Arcane Trickster offers multiclass Rogue/Wizards both full Spell Progression and Sneak Attack Progression. Fairly ideal way to build the sort of character you're describing.

Also do-able with (I believe) only 3 levels of Rogue - which leaves the 'magic' 17 levels of Spell Progression...

Atually, if you plan it right, you can do it with only one level of rogue, and one level of Assassin. That puts a LOT of your skill points in pre-assigned areas, but saving that extra level of non-caster is worth it, in general.

If you have a nice Gm, you don't even have to be evil. If not, well, be evil already. You only have to do it for one level.

Not quite. If you ever fail to meet a PrC's prerequisites, you lose all benefits of the class except for saves and BAB. And if memory serves me, you need two sneak attack dice to be an assassin.

Nope. The only prerequisites for the Assassin class are Evil Alignment, Disguise 4 ranks, Hide & Move Silently 8 ranks, and you have to kill someone just to become an Assassin. You don't need Sneak Attack at all.

...unless, of course, you meant to say Arcane Trickster, in which case you are correct.

Uhm. You guys don't suggest that the character hould be evil, kill some person for no reason, and then, after became assassin, abandon all that evilness and become good, in order to travel with a normal (read: not allowing evil) party, now do you? If yes, I want to speak with your Dungeon Master right now. He has much to explain!
