Just wondering if anyone had read the Book of Erotic Fantasy?

What is it like?- a Heavy Metal magazine with d20ish feats 'n classes? Exploitative porn? Well written innovative gaming material?

Thx.

Being that I playtest the book and my opinion is so obviously skewed, I wont answer.

I will however point you to a review by Steven Creech at d20magazine rack.

There is also a review here at enworld on it.

read those.

also www.valarproject.com
feel free to ask about the book there at its website. (free previews are available.)

If you playtested it, then perhaps could you answer this question instead-

In which circumstances did you use the rules/feats/classes provided? How did the book affect the setting in which you played? Can you give an paly example or two?

Thanks,

I've looked through it, breifly though. The best term that I can come up with to describe it is: sophmoric. It is primarily a book of feats, spells, and rules, and there is a good bit of flavor material in it as well, however nothing truely innovative. Anyone could have come up with the majority of the material on there own if they had wanted to.

Nothing in the book is really that offensive (to me), however it is certainly questionable. IMO spells like "Power Word: Orgasm" and "Word of Comand: Masturbate" just seem too childish. There are a few interesting spells in it, that can be used to create "evil" spawn, and could make for an interesting backstory for some characters/NPCs.

the "photoshoped" pictures are very well done, but it certainly is not for anyone under the age of 18 (21 in some regions), unless accompanied by an adult. I can see why WoTC overreacted the way they did, but I think overall the book not as bad as it would seem. the book is definately not for everyone. Unless you have a need in your game for rules on how to deal with sex or are really just curious about it, you should probably save your money.

If you can ignore our brief spat, there is some good discussion of the feats in this thread.

You'd think so? :) However, ArthurQ caught flak from some members of the boards when he posted his opinion, specifically because he had been a playtester.

Go figure.

I've read it, and I'd say its closer to your third choice than the other two.

Stop by the Valar Project boards and I and others will be appy to discuss any specific questions you have. Off the bat i'll say that I used the book in conjunction with the Forgotten Realms. My favorite Prestige Class is the Rake, which works perfectly for Sharran rogues.

Appearance worked ok. After testing I decided it was best to allow the PC's to just choose their appearance scores if not roll them seprate from their other stats. (Suprisingly not everyone chose a high stat there!)

I dont have my notes anymore so you'll have to be more specific in your questions. Ask them at Valar's boards and i'm sure someone, if not I, will come up with an answer for you.

But... since you playtested it, and know it inside out, wouldn't you be the best person to offer forth an opinion?
Yes, I playtested it.
No, I do not know it inside and out. I cannot commit the whole book to memmory. I even foibled in the other thread on the way chast life worked.

Which is why I'd rather discuss it there.

actually nope.
a varient of the command spell is in there with two additional commands.

Masterbate, and Orgasm.
The first makes the target drop whatever he/she is holding and fondle their genitals, the second induces an orgasm which distracts the target and gives it various penalties.

I dont have the book in front of me so i cant tell you what those penalties are though.
However as childish as the spell may seem, its pretty much common sense that such spells would exist...
