Anyone know of a source book for the world of Vampire Hunter D?

OK, was going to sit down and do some research on this tomorrow, but I figure I may as well ask. Given this community if it exists I'm sure someone knows about it.

Specifically I'm looking for a sourcebook detailing the world the anime Vampire Hunter D (original and bloodlust, at least I'm assuming it's the same world...) takes place in. I'm quite unfamiliar with the works aside from a vague idea that it was originally a novel or series of novels. (I'm guessing there's maybe been a Magna somewhere along the lines, too?) General quality matters much more than system (as I'm considering trying out BESM for this anyway, learning something else too convert it won't bother me). It doesn’t even have to be a RPG source book, any good source of information on the world (history / geography / inhabitants / anything cool that would help run a campaign there faithful to the style of the anime) would work....

Oh, one last thing... in English;)

If there is such a book Guardians of Order probably makes it. You mentioned BESM, it's the same company that makes that. Check their website. They do a ton of fan guides to anime. I'm not sure if it includes game stats, but that will be your best place to start.

The anime are based off a series of novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi.
There should be sources on the net for translations and synopsis.

This site has some synopsis of the books

This has Vampire Hunter D links as well.

I haven't found any comprehensive translations of the books, but someone has got to have something out there somewhere.

Judging from some of the information, D20 Gamma World rules would come in handy for dealing with the mutants, geneticaly engineered creatures and hi-tech remnants.

Thanks. From this and what I've found thus far nothing like this accualy exists, a shame given the potential the world has for role-playing.

Though the synopsys give me a nice starting point, at least.
