Im not gonna into details but there might come a time where Ill need to fight someone with a cloak of displacement.
Is there anything that can help me with this that doesnt involve class attributes? We dont gain lvls much and im alrdy multiclassing (monk 4/sorc1).
I was thinking something like having a Sun Blade and using the light to look at his shadow since the cloak only effects his physical body. But any better items would be helpful. We're going to a big town soon to sell and possibly buy some magic items so the less rare the item the better.

edit: would Robe of Eyes work? I mean if I can see invisible things youd think id be able to see a displaced creature.

edit: Gem of Seeing looks like a good choice

Robe of Eye's wouldn't work. Seeing invisible does not mean seeing through all illusions.

The cloak only grants disadvantage on attack rolls, and stops working until their next turn if they take damage. It also stops working if they are incapacitated, restrained, or otherwise unable to move.

Are you going to be fighting this person alone or with the rest of your group?

If with a group, whoever goes just after the displaced foe needs a way of damaging them that doesn't involve an attack roll, or a way of stopping their movement (grapple, Web spell, etc.)

Use Magic Missile, Burning Hands, a save-or-damage cantrip, etc. That shuts the cloak off for a round so everyone else can attack without disadvantage.

If you are facing them alone...grapple their ass (athletics check: no attack roll, no disadvantage) , take them to the ground (another athletics check), and go to town. Being grappled reduces their speed to zero and shuts off the cloak. Now attack with Advantage (they are prone), and they are at disadvantage to hit you.

The Cloak only affects attack rolls, and it ceases to function for a turn if the wearer takes any damage. So area effects, especially those that still inflict damage on a miss, are your friend, as are any effects which deal ongoing damage on the subject's turn.

EDIT: Its effects are also sight-based, so consider using something that negates sight as a factor, such as a cloud of fog or a darkness effect. If both you and your opponent have disadvantage on attacks, you are on an even footing.

What about Gem of Seeing? Truesight has to be able to see through the displacement illusion right?
And id probably be doing this by myself.
And I dont think the grapple option would work in my favor...trust me...

A cloak of displacement projects an illusion and gives you disadvantage to hit.

Area effect spells are unaffected. If you can gain advantage, it will cancel the disadvantage. If the person wearing the cloak is incapacitated, restrained or can't move it doesn't work. If you can see through illusion, I would rule that you do not have disadvantage (this is a DM's call though).

Of course there's always just attacking with disadvantage. You're less likely to hit but the target is not invulnerable.

So there's a lot of ways around it. Blast them with a fireball, knock them prone, have a buddy grapple them, get truesight. Or just attack and accept that they're going to be a little harder to hit than expected.

With a 19 ac its gonna be hard.
But the truesight you mentioned seems to be my best bet. Hes part rouge so maybe thatll get rid of his sneak attack too?

True sight doesn't affect his ability to sneak attack, at least not directly. If he's using a sight based illusion (i.e. invisibility) to gain advantage for a sneak attack, it'll negate that.

If you have access to all these powerful magic items, I say getting Gauntlets of Ogre Power or a Belt of Giant strength is your best bet. Then go the Grapple/Prone route. That will negate the cloak and his ability to sneak attack you all at once. You're a monk, go MMA on him.

Something that gives you blindsight or tremorsence would work as well. I do not remember anything listed in the DMG, but I would allow something that grants 10ft blindsight. A cool look for a monk in the movies is when they tie a sash over their eyes and give the bad guy the "come and get it" to the bad guy. Of course tying something around your eyes takes away everything farther than 10ft, so it is a trade off.
