In Monte's upcoming AU there will be cat people and dog people. What do you think about the inclusion of 'furries' in DND?

not to big on it. unless.....

the whole world is that way.. kinda like a Redwall... that'd be cool..

I thought it interesting that he's kinda "uplifting" them...

Catgirls(And the occaisonal cat-boy or dog-boy) are very common in anime, and I would like to finally see DnD stats for a race of cat-people. Also, a dog-person race would really help out if I wanted to convert Inu-Yasha to the d20 system(And you never know what setting I'll try next.)

I'm not really a big fan of cat-people/dog-people/fuzzies and what not in DnD, although DMs are free to include whatever they want in their games.

*shudders* Elminister as a fuzzy dog-man in Toril...

Doesn't really bother me. I've been using Lupins and Rakasta from the known world for ages, and they don't really strike me as any different from having orcs, yuan-ti or other humanoid races around.

I think arwink has the right idea. There are already monsters out there themed after every conceivable animal. It's not the inclusion of "furries" in D&D, its how they're included. Are they reclusive savages that are obviously "monsters" like the Rakasta and Lupins, or are they like elves and dwarves, seen as being a kind of "demi-human"? Thats the difference.

Furries

I ran an AD&D (not OA) module last year set in the Forgotten Realms Kara-Tur setting, where the humanoid animal Hengeyokai race were a key part of the storyline. A few NPC's of that race have now been added to the group as PC's.

Information used in the module about the origin and home of the Hengeyokai are posted on the Plots & Places board under "Village of the Blessed Children", and the module is under Story Hour as "Chinese Take-out".

I have included the Kzini (Big, agressive humanoid tiger) from ringword (the book) for about 15 years and many other games have some other feline sort of race. D&D has alwasys had Kobolds (who up until 3e were "dog-men" , Filinds & Gnolls. so the concept isn't exactly new;)

I have a PC race in my Sundered Sky homebrew that are called Wildlings, basically a hybrid of man and animal.

The base animal for a PC Wildling has to be Tiny or Diminuitive in size (otherwise everyone would be playing Tiger Wildlings). I based the creation of the PC race on a template of my own devising which you can see here.

The free Umbragia setting (hosted by ENWorld) has both cat and dog people. Mythic Races by FFG also has cat people.

I was very grateful that Races of Evernor Vol. I from Silverthorne Games patterned their cat race after domesticated varieties rather than doing another race of proud warriors patterned after the big cats
