D&D 5E An Introduction to the Forgotten Realms

I'm amusing myself by writing a series of articles on the Forgotten Realms that introduce it to new players and highlight the current lore for older players. Not sure how far I'll get, but it gives me some focus on pulling together material from the recent adventures and novels into some sort of coherency.

The first article basically looks at the recent publication history of the Realms; I'm intending the second article to go up sometime soon and to given an overview of the Sword Coast. And then there may be some tighter focus articles on Waterdeep, Neverwinter, the Gods and so forth. It's not like there's a dearth of things to write about!

If there is any area you'd like me to cover, could you let me know?

Thanks for doing these, Merric! I'm going to share these with my Tyranny of Dragons and Scourge of the Sword Coast groups, as none of the players in either campaign (with one or two possible exceptions) is all that familiar with the Realms.

EDIT: Except that I can't show the ToD group the Sword Coast article since you've included spoilers. Whoops!

Heh. Copy them into a wordprocessor and edit out the Tyranny spoilers.

Thanks for doing this! Since 5E defaults to Forgotten Realms now, but has no real Gazetter, something like that is really needed! 8D

Great information, like the most of the stuff you post on your site, Merric. Random question re: the policing of Baldur's Gate. Is there any sort of tension between the Flaming Fists and the City Watch that polices the Upper City? Seems like a weird situation...
