Does the increase in price apply to the listed price (and number) of items listed in the PHB, like enchanting a set of ammunition does?
Or does it apply to to each piece of ammunition at a time?
Examples:
Silvered Arrows (20) = 1 gp (base) + 2 gp (silvered tips) = 3 gp
Adamantite Bolts (10) = 1 gp (base) + 60 gp (adamantite tips) = 61 gp
Cold Iron Bullets (10) = 1 sp (base) x 2 (cold iron) = 2 sp
Silvered Arrows (20) = 1 gp (base) + 2 gp x20 (silvered tips) = 41 gp
Adamantite Bolts (10) = 1 gp (base) + 60 gp x 10 (adamantite tips) = 601 gp
Cold Iron Bullets (10) = 1 sp (base) x 2 (cold iron) = 2 sp
+1 Arrows (50) = 350 gp (base) + 2000 gp (enchanting) = 2350 gp
My gut says it goes with the first, cause they sort of set the precedent with enchanting for groups of arrows but masterworking is contradictory as it adds to each piece of ammunition individually. Overall it seems to make it pretty rough to be an archer and be a threat for more than a couple rounds with the rate of fire of most archers against a creature that has DR x/cold iron/silver/adamantite without spending an extremely excessive amount of money on ammunition.
A fifth level fighter could have a +1 longsword for an indefinate number of swings, while a fighter with a longbow and 50 +1 arrows would have 50 shots and be done with it. Both fighters spent the same amount. I know it'd be easier to just get a +1 longbow so lets take a different example.
A second level fighter could have a silvered longsword for again an indefinate number of swings, while a fighter with a longbow and 50 silvered arrows would get 50 shots and be done with it. This time the fighter with the arrows spent 10 gp more.
Just wondering about this, not which one is the better combat machine (melee vs. ranged), just about how the money stuff applies.
