ALIEN RPG Launches New Kickstarter

Free League Publishing has launched a Kickstarter for a new edition of ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game, complete with a new starter box and a box of miniatures. Launched today, the Kickstarter raises money for an Evolved edition of the popular licensed horror RPG, which uses the Year Zero Engine. The Evolved Edition contains improved version for stealth mode, stress and panic, and a new zero gravity system. The edition also includes content from ALIEN: Romulus, the hit 2023 movie, including a setting guide for Jackson's Star, and a solo mode.

The ALIEN RPG uses a dice-pool system where rolling a 6 guarantees a success. Players can add stress for additional rolls with specially-colored dice, although rolling a 1 on these dice causes the chance of panic setting in. The game comes with a campaign mode and a cinematic mode in which players are more likely to get killed by an alien or a different terror in space.

As of the time of this writing, the Kickstarter has already raised over $650,000, putting it well on the pathway to the fabled $1 million mark.

Thanks for starting the new thread.

Well, I'm in for the starter. I'll probably buy Rapture Protocol and the Core Book later. Unless I decide to swap my pledge to the Xenomorph bundle, which is entirely possible, knowing me. (Since I just dropped Rapture Protocol from my pledge, after looking at how much I've spent this month, and knowing I'm going to the C2E2 con in a few weeks.)

On the one hand, I'm really looking forward to this revised edition. The new layout not only looks great, it also promises better readability than the old one with mostly black pages. And it's great that they not only bring it to the core book, but also to CMOM and BBW! Also, I think fine-tuning the rules is a good idea.
But still, somehow this crowdfunding sparks no joy for me. Maybe it's because I'm not interested in miniatures, but there's no pledge level I immediately want to jump on. I'm pretty sure that, one way or another, I will get the new game, but having to go over the pledge levels and add-ons again to decide which one I want feels odd.

Edit:
Jumped in at the digital core book level. And I'll probably add the new cinematic module, too. If necessary, I can always buy the printed books later at my FLGS.

I'm interested, but I need to know more about how they've revised the rules for Stress and Panic before I'm willing to pull the trigger. I'd also like to know what, if anything, they've done to provide for a more cinematic experience as we got in Aliens. The base game did a fine job of emulating Alien, but it wasn't so great for Aliens.

I backed the original Alien, and bought the colonial marines book, but have never actually played it, and honestly it's hard to foresee me playing it in the future.

And I'm STILL tempted to get at least the new core rulebook....
