"alchemical" silver

Hi. Sorry for the possibly stupid question, but is "alchemical" silver the same thing as silver from previous versions? In other words, is it just for bypassing lycanthrope damage resistance, or does the "alchemical" part add something further?

Thanks for the help.

It bypasses DR for certain types of creatures. It's more than just lycnathropes - a lot more. But it is more or less the same thing. I think the point of adding the word "alchemical" was to make it clear that the weapons were not actually solid silver since silver is a pretty poor material to go making weapons from.

Actualy Alchemal Silver is Mercury, teh same stuff in thermometers. A sword with an alchemal silver core is basically designed to have the silver rest in the pommel of the weapon, then when swung, the mercury is forced up a small hollow tube in the blade, thus making it heavier & the kinetic force greater. I forget where the specific rules for the sword are (I think Sword and Fist, might also wanna try the Arms and Equipment guide).

So, in answer to your question, no it does not help with lycanthropes.

Slingbld :)

It is made for penetrating the DR of lycanthropes, devils, and some other monsters. Its only other effect is giving a -1 to damage rolls.
