Abjurant Champion

The Abjurant Champion (Complete Mage) has an ability called Abjurant Armor, which allows him to add his class level to the shield or armor bonus to AC provided by abjuration spells. As far as I can tell, there is exactly one abjuration spell that provides such a bonus: shield. Am I missing something here, or is this just a really verbose way of saying "add your class level to the bonus provided by shield"?

There is a spell in BoED. I think Luminous Armor.

If you look at the sample Abjurant Champion, you'll notice that the development team incorrectly believed that the ability applies to Mage Armour.

That's what I was thinking. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but...

Everyone seems to think Mage Armor is Abjuration. Its Conjuration because unlike Shield it... um... conjures an unseen, immaterial protective force, whereas Shield... um... abjures an unseen, immaterial protective force. I think...

It makes perfect sense.

Aw, who am I kidding.

MAGE ARMOR IS ABJURATION!!!
CURE SPELLS ARE NECROMANCY!!!
TELEPORT IS TRANSMUTATION!!!
UP IS DOWN!!!
BLACK IS WHITE!!!

The class was clearly designed with the idea that this ability applies to Mage Armor. Unfortunately, the rules for the class were written in such a way that it doesn't.

The official line sticks with the letter of the law rather than the spirit. I think that is dumb.

There's an official line? Has this been through the Sage already?

If the official line does so, it would have to contradict the example character and the implied use of Mage Armour in the very text of the ability, which is exactly what you would get if you read it literally, since rules text supersedes example characters and additional explanatory text. Still, it is very clear that the development team wanted it to apply to Mage Armour and slipped up on the execution.
