Aberrations & Undead scare animals?

Felon

First Post
I recalled reading somewhere in the core rules that animals won't approach undead or aberrations, but now I can't find any such passage. The PHB does state that getting animals to attack "unnatural" creatures does require special training, so perhaps I just extrapolated from that. Or perhaps I'm remembering something I read in the 3e core rules that wasn't carried over to 3.5. I thought I'd check and see what other folks know on the subject.

I'd pretty much assume anything that would scare a human would scare an animal unless it's in its "prey group". It would take some unnatural impetus, like special training or having a strong desire to guard a druid or ranger, for them to act differently.

There's nothing special about being an undead or aberration, though these are more likely to be scary in general than other types. Some Monster Manual entries make specific references to animal reactions (Wraiths), so monsters similar to them may cause a similar, though lesser, effect.

I've only ever seen the reference you mention in the Player's Handbook under the Handle Animal skill set.
I imagine that they shun contact with undead, oozes, dragons, some abberations and non-humanoid outsiders. Everything else, including humanoids, magical beasts, fey, plants, vermin, other animals and giants are probably tolerable to animals.
