D&D 5E Abeil (from the 3rd edition MM II)

jadrax

Adventurer
These have turned out as a bit glass-cannon, although as a flying ranged attacker they are a bit nasty. I have purposefully deceased the size from the MM entry, as them being large bee people is not very cool imho. Also stripped of their ability to cast sleep, which I will reserve for Drones for a bit more variety.

Abeil Soldier
Medium Humanoid, Lawful Neutral
Armor Class 11
Hit Points 39 (6d8 + 12)
Speed 40 ft., fly 90 ft.
STR 16 (+3) DEX 12 (+1) CON 14 (+2) INT 9 (-1) WIS 11 (+0) CHA 11 (+0)
Skills Perception +2, Survival +2
Senses Darkvision 60 ft. passive perception 12
Languages Common, Elvish, Sylvan
Challenge 3 (700 xp)

Flyby. The Abeil Soldier doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack when it flies out of an enemy’s reach.

Hive Mind. While an Abeil Queen is within 25 miles of an Abiel Soldier, the Abeil solider has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.

Actions

Multiattack. The Abeil Soldier makes two attacks: one with its Glaive and one with its sting or two with its longbow.
Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 3) slashing damage.
Sting. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 3) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8 + 1) piercing damage.
Stormwing (Recharge 6). The Abeil creates a 40 foot radius sonic burst extending all around it. Each creature that is not an Abeil in that area must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) Thunder damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Abeils are an imperialistic an expansionist race of bee-people. Soldier Abeils are the army of the Hive's Queen, and are larger then their kin.

For some reason I thought the Vassal would be trivial to do compaired to the Soldier... this was not the case. I have no idea if these have the right Challenge rating.

Abeil Vassal
Small Humanoid, Lawful Neutral
Armor Class 11
Hit Points 7 (2d6)
Speed 30 ft., fly 60 ft.
STR 11 (+0) DEX 12 (+1) CON 10 (+0) INT 10 (+0) WIS 12 (+1) CHA 9 (-1)
Skills Perception +3, Survival +3
Senses Darkvision 60 ft. passive perception 13
Languages Common, Elvish, Sylvan
Challenge 1/4 (50 xp)

Hive Mind. While an Abeil Queen is within 25 miles of an Abiel Vassal, the Abeil Vassal has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.

Actions

Multiattack. The Abeil Vassal makes two attacks: one with its flail and one with its sting or two with its javelins.
Flail. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d8) bludgeoning damage.
Javelin. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) piercing damage.
Sting. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 4 (1d6 +1) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 hour.
Drone (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest): The Abeil creates a 20 foot radius sonic burst extending all around it. This effects 2d8 hit points of creatures, affected in ascending order of their current hit points (ignoring unconscious creatures, other Abeil, Undead and any creatures immune to being charmed). Starting with the creature that has the lowest current hit points, each creature affected by this spell falls unconscious for one minute, or until it takes damage or another creature uses an action to wake it. Subtract each creature’s hit points from the total before moving on to the creature with the next lowest hit points. A creature’s hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total for that creature to be affected.

Vassals are the backbone of Abeil society, providing manual labour and gathering pollen for the hive.
