6th level Potions

IMC (an old "imported" from 2e) we had some Heal Potions available.
When we moved to 3e I never payed any attention to the rules for crafting potions and allowed them to exist, BUT, when one of my players got the Brew Potion feat he asked me if he could make the 6th level Heal Potions
So I told him that only the most dedicated spellcasters could make that magic, if he wanted to he could. In other words

Feats

Brew Lesser Potion (lvls 1-3)
Brew Greater Potion (lvls 4-6)

What do you think?
What about prerreqs? (He's level 16 so itwouldn't mind but there are eventually gonna be more spellcasters wanting to do so...)

In D&D, you can't make potions above 3rd level normally.

However, in Magic of Faerun, there is a Prestige Class called the Master Alchemist who can brew potions of higher level (6th level potions at 4th level & 9th level potions at 10th).

If you want players to be able to simply BUY Heal potions, you can simply allow them to but it from "Master Alcemists" at a market price of at least twice the market price of a scroll of Heal (as there are much fewer master alchemists to make these high level potions). However, the class description say the MP is 50 gp X spell level X level of the caster [3,300 gp; 50 X 6 X (7th lvl clr + 4th lvl Mst Alch)].

If you want your PC's to be able to create them themselves? You have to have 10 ranks in both Craft (alchemy) & Spellcraft, 4th level spells, and the Brew Potion & Skill Focus (alchemy) feats (plus 1 FR specfic feat- Magical Artisan. And, since Master Alchemists have to be 4th level (charcter level 11, minimum) to make 6th level potions. PC's would have to be 11th lvl to even cosider being able to make a Heal potion.

My recommendation: Don't make them spend another Feat just to be able to make high-level potions. Simply say 1 must be at least 12th-15th level, have 10+ ranks in Craft (alchemy or herbalism) and Spellcraft. Also they must have access to a masterwork alchemy lab. Plus, it'll take several days to brew each potion.

In the end, scrolls of Heal are simply an easier way to go unless your party lacks a cleric (in which case the PC's can't make it themselves anyway). Or, your cleric could just not have Scribe Scroll (just make him take it ratehr than try to come up with a new feat to allow him to brew higher level potions).

Hope this aids you somehow.

I like the idea of a Master Alchemist
It fits my "only the most devoted can do it".

My party has a cleric but since they're doing a lot of splits ultimately (it's a 6th character party and they usually go 3 and 3) he felt the need to suply the other party with healing devices, and once you reach the 150HP the normal potions are useless =\

Thanks a lot for the reply =)
