3.x Arms and Equipment Guide to Pathfinder

Rawnkin

First Post
Hi all, long time lurker first-time poster. I've recently picked up the (amazing) Pathfinder books after playing 4e for about 2 years. I loved 3.x, both running and playing, and thumbing through the rules/prepping for my upcoming Pathfinder game leaves me excited at the chance to finally run this (IMO) superior system.

I know that Pathfinder is supposed to be compatible with 3.x books and such, but I am weary of allowing anything for fear of upsetting the nice balance Pathfinder expresses. I also like to know the rules for everything going on in the game, so just opening it up to any book is definitely not an option.

That said, I really like gear (mundane and magic) and in particular the Arms and Equipment guide sourcebook from 3.x (I believe it's 3.0, actually). Off hand, is there any reason allowing this book in my PF game would throw balance to the wayside? Being that I never really gamed the 3.x system when I played/GMd, I honestly don't know what to avoid when allowing 3.x content in my PF game.

Thanks in advance!

It is a fairly thick book to just say 'yes' or 'no'.

In general, I would suggest evaluating anything a player wants to bring in on a case-by-case basis. You may wish to see if there is a Pathfinder equivalent of a particular item first.

In addition, if you like neat adventuring gear, you might like Paizo's Adventurer's Armory Pathfinder Companion.

Welcome to (posting on) EN World!

I agree with what Volaran wrote, but I'd also like to add, if you *do* end up using it, please let us know what issues - if any - you do run into.

I love the A&EG so I hope it goes smoothly.

Good luck!

Equipment can be used with little-to-no adaptation; if it emulates a spell, I'd check with the changes made to spells to see if it is consistant. Feats are on a case-by-case basis. I don't see any major issues, though, from that book. If I remember right, it's mostly the cost of mundane items.

Thanks for the replies so far. I took some time last night and read through the book; it seems fine to me, at least as far as the mundane equipment and such goes. I'll have to look deeper into the magic items; I'm more interested in allowing for more interesting situational gear and items than the magic item offerings.

I'll probably allow it not in our first game but in additional games, as half the players will be new to any sort of d20 ruleset and I don't want to overwhelm them with options. I love gear, though, so I'll check out the other books ya'll linked in your responses.
