D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 version of Spellcasting Prodigy

Could somebody tell me what the Spellcasting Prodigy feat was updated to in 3.5 (appearing in Player's Guide to Faerun, AFAIK)? I'm starting in an online game set in FR, and I don't have a single one of all the FR books being allowed (it's mostly core + FR), so it's difficult digging up feat info.

Thanks.

It's in Player's Guide to Faerun. Spellcasting ability score is treated as 2 higher for bonus spells. Only taken at 1st level. I think that's the same as 3e.

Back in 3e it also added to the DC for spells but the 3.5e version found in PGtF only provides the bonus ability score when figuring for bonus spells. Not as good and not really something worth taking, though I see the need for reducing all of the +1 DC feats down some. IMO they should have just kept the feat the same and made it a Regional feat, about the same power level compared with these more powerful feats.

No, they nerfed the 3E ability since a lot of FR PC Wizards were taking the feat and when compared to Spell Focus, it is huge.

It used to be something like the 3.5 version plus it upped the DC of all of the Wizards spells by 1 (I do not remember the exact details, but it was something like this). For all intents and purposes, it raised the Int of the caster by 2 (except for skill points and possibly Int checks).

Virtually every PC Wizard in our campaigns took it. It used to be a no brainer to get a bonus spell and +1 DC to all spells. With the 3.5 version, none of the Wizards have taken it now (however, that might also be due to different Wizard concepts in our game now).

Ah. I suppose it's not really surprising. For a Int or Wis slightly higher you might be one or possibly two more spells out, but it's probably a lot weaker than Extra Spell or the like, but that may depend on level and situation.

Depends on the situation. Extra Spell has more versatility, while Spellcasting Prodigy gives you a access to a higher level spell and perhaps some lower ones. But if for some reason you don't want the higher level spell but another level spell and don't want to take Spellcasting Prodigy at 1st level, then the flexibility of Extra Spell might be useful. Perhaps not so much for pure spellcasters, but multiclass spellcasters with utility spell - who knows.

The interesting thing about spellcasting prodigy in PGtF is the discrepancy between the text and the table. IIRC, the table has a more powerful version.

Pinitage can correct me if I am wrong, but I assume he meant Extra Slot.
