D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 templates and creature types

When creatures take on one of the templates from the 3.5 MM, and the creatures base type changes, does the creature then assume all of the traits listed for that new type? Or only the traits specifically noted in the templates listing?

I am asking this since the skeleton template does not mention darkvision as an added ability, but the stat blocks in the entry show darkvision as a special quality. That makes me think a creature gains the traits of its new type. The lich template also explicitly lists some traits common to undead, but not all. Then the half-dragon template explicitly lists nearly all the traits for the dragon type.

A clarification is greatly appreciaited!

According to page 291 of the 3.5 MM, under Template:Reading a Template:Size and Type.
"Unless a template indicates otherwise, the new creature has the traits of the new type but the features of the original type."
