D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Point Buy

Majere

First Post
Erm,
Stuck at work without my DMG, can anyone let me know what the cost of attributes under a normal 3.5 point buy is.

Im also taking suggestions on stats for a 32point buy human paladin.

Li Shenron already posted the point buy costs, so I'll just give my suggested distribution for your 32-point human paladin:

STR 16
DEX 10
CON 12
INT 10
WIS 12
CHA 16

You'll want to bump-up your wisdom to 14 eventually to be able to cast 4th-level paladin spells, but you'll have plenty of time to do that. Alternately, you could drop your INT or even DEX to 8 to give yourself a 14 CON.

I count 20 points there bud (base of 10 first right?)

My distribution for 32 points is

Str 15 (6pts)
Dex 10 (0pts)
Con 16 (8pts)
Int 12 (2pts)
Wis 16 (8pts)
Cha 16 (8pts)

Maybe lower con and add dex just for less min/maxing maybe

Feegle Out 8)

Ability..Stat...Points..Bonus
Str......15......8........+2
Dex.....10......2........0
Con.....13......5........+1
Int......10......2........0
Wis.....13......5.........+1
Cha.....16......10.......+3

(started at 8, not 10)

But it really depends on how you want to play, this is very generic IMO.

Edit: I've attached my excel pt buy calculator (must have excel), but it is 44 pt buy :) Just type the points over 44 before you start.

Wouldn't it be better to go with a 14 Str and raise both Con and Wis to 14...that way it only takes 2 stat points (8th level) at level ups to get you to 16 Str 14 con and 14 Wis. Otherwise it will take you til 12th level to achieve the same result.

I was thinking the 16 str at 4th level would be nice, you don't really need the 14 wis until later. YMMV, I like odd stats on new characters.

Yeah, but wisdom doesn't need to be 14 until 15th-level, so having the points in other stats will help more early-on than having them in Wisdom right-away IMO.

A base of 8? damn thats harsh. I see why we just trust the luck of the dice. Do you add racial mods before or after calculating?

I dont think a paladin gets that many useful abilities to offset the amount of stats he needs to be viable in a points buying system, but thats me, I only play pallies when I get a good set of rolls.

Apologies for the miscount bud, my bad

Feegle OUt
