I want to clarify, I am not talking about it being manually translated by a DM from 2d to 3d. My point is that a computer can make that conversion, being full automated, and it have nothing to do with AI. Computers are great at this with or without AI.

AI may help, IDK, but it is not like you need AI to translate a 2d map to 3d.

When comparing profile to profile and front to front, I think the new one clearly looks better. One issue I possibly have is, as you noted, the colors. They are very bright and shiny (particularly the teeth). I would want to see it in person though to make a final judgement.

Why did they redesign the dragons 24 years ago? Probably similar reasons this time too. Though the red dragon, overall, is barely a redesign. It is more like regional variation than a redesign. You see more variations in humans and dogs than you do between the 3e and the 5e24 red dragon design.

Counterpoint, good armor good block crossbow bolts, longbow arrows, and firearms (of the era). A lot of factors played into it, but quality of the armor and angle of the impact were big ones.

The 4e MM, and in particular the monster vault, are good resources for interesting monster abilities. 4e applied a lot more conditions and effects compared to 5e, so if you don't like that then 4e monsters may not be for you.

I have been thinking about that too. Combat checks and skill checks are both types of ability checks so it just makes sense (and easy to do). Adding spells will ruffle some feathers but I think it is the way to go too.
