D&D General Does WotCs “Happy Holidays” post confirm a Ravenloft book in 2026?

Doesn't look at all like Mordenkainen. My first guess was either the 1e/2e version of Elminster or, more likely, just a stereotypical wizard. But, upon closer inspection, it looks like he's carrying a crystal ball (Palantir), so maybe it is indeed supposed to be Gandalf?

D&D's Lack of 2026 Announcements Actually Follows Precedent

Same here! But the stores I frequented would only get one or two copies and they used them to plan out their orders, so I'd my photocopy copy would have to do until the end of the year. Then, at year's end, when they didn't need the catalog any more, they would give me one of their copies.

D&D's Lack of 2026 Announcements Actually Follows Precedent

TSR used to produce what were called "Master Catalogs" that were only available to shop owners (although they published a hardcover edition that consumers could buy for the 1993 year). These would contain all products for the entire year with descriptions, order numbers, prices, pre-production...

D&D's Lack of 2026 Announcements Actually Follows Precedent

I guess I'm a little spoiled in that I look forward to having the full D&D release schedule by the start of the year. On the plus side, we do know about the four Greenwood-authored Forgotten Realms books coming out, for those who are interested in that sort of thing. Although they aren't...

Justice Ramin Arman Promoted to Game Design Director of Dungeons & Dragons

As much as I like seeing completely new adventures, I also like it when they revise the best classic adventure modules for 5e, as was done with "Quests from the Infinite Staircase", "Tales from the Yawning Portal", and "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" (which also included some nice modules from "Dungeon"...

    White Dwarf Reflections #35

I ran my players through both Assassin's Knot and Saltmarsh and consider them two of the best modules ever. Because the player's choice of actions is so open (especially in Assassin's Knot), I can see how the adventures could fail to be much fun for some groups, however. Spoilers for L2, U1...

    White Dwarf Reflections #34

Yeah, I know what you mean about the "Trouble at Embertrees" teeny tiny print. It was that way with some of the modules in other issues of White Dwarf as well. Even back when the magazines came out, I found some of those modules a bit challenging to read, but it was worth the effort since they...

    Dragon Reflections #100

Nothing related to the contents. It's just a fancy dragon to celebrate the 100th issue of "Dragon". A faerie dragon was chosen because the faerie dragon first appeared in the magazine (issue 62) before becoming part of the official AD&D rules in MMII and purple because it's the oldest, most...

    Dragon Reflections #100

One interesting note about the cover that doesn't show up in the photo is that the purple areas (the faerie dragon and the word "Dragon") were embossed. I remember how pretty this cover was when I picked up the issue at my local game store back in '85. TSR also used to occasionally emboss some...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

Great! I'm glad to see the new print run came out okay and it's on schedule this time. The new D&D books generally aren't delivered to any of the FLGSs in my area until right on the day of early release or a couple of days after. I always figured the very close timing is to try to keep them...

D&D 5E (2024) Ed Greenwood to Publish 4 New Forgotten Realms Sourcebooks in 2026

I didn't see any details about whether these will PDF only or PDF/POD. So far, the Realms products in which Ed has contributed that were released on DM's Guild are a mixture; some POD and some PDF only. Maybe they haven't yet finalized the format.

D&D General How Much D&D Stuff Is There Anyway? Part 4: Novels

Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. I love having maps in novels so I can trace out the paths of the protagonists. The villages, lairs, ruins, roads, and such would often only appear on the maps that were printed in the TSR novels and not on any maps of the same region that were included in...

D&D General How Much D&D Stuff Is There Anyway? Part 4: Novels

I used to collect the hardcover versions of TSR novels when they came out since I prefer hardcovers over paperbacks, but then I would buy the paperback version when it was released around a year later since the paperback would include a map in the front of the novel that was not in the...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I wonder if FOBO (Fear of Better Options) contributes to the paralyzation that discourages some people from making a decision when confronted with more choices. I've experienced this myself. The more choices there are, the harder it is to be sure you're making the optimal decision, so...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

It may have driven TSR to ruin, but I sure am grateful for all that product that was released in the 1990's. TSR was releasing close to a dozen products a month in the 1990's, yet they still managed to stay afloat for years before it all crashed down. Given that they were producing probably...

D&D General How Much D&D Stuff Is There Anyway? Part 1: Editions

I'm curious about the photo at the beginning of the article. Is that a portion of your personal collection, Echohawk? If so, I'd like to see a higher resolution photo if one is available. That's a beautiful collection. Personally, I keep my gamebooks stored in file cabinets to protect them...

Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

Here's the current real cost of the monthly periodical (physical + digital copies) for me. It will vary for others due to differing discounts, taxes, and shipping. I've been an Adventure Path subscriber since issue 49. The current regular price of the magazine is $29.99, but I got a 30%...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Interesting that you had a dogeared copy of the FF. It brings back an amusing memory of a time when a friend and I attended one of the Gen Con auctions in the late '80s. He and I were not too impressed with the fiend folio when it was first published. There were a few good entries such as the...

    White Dwarf Reflections #26

Hey, I had disc guns like that! They were great because the discs would sail a fairly long distance, just like Frisbees. I also had another type of spring-loaded gun that I liked. It shot bright yellow, spherical, BB-sized rubber balls.

D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Covers of Upcoming Forgotten Realms Books Revealed

Yes, that would be nice --- like when they issued the 5.0e core books gift set in a slipcover with a DM screen and Hydro74 covers in 2018, which was three years after the core books were originally released in 2014. I'm not saying they would necessarily have to use Hydro74 as the artist since...
