D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I would argue it is tier 2 only where they are weak. At levels 1-4 they are getting a base 2 attacks a turn using a bonus action which most classes aren't. A Fighter or Ranger with Two Weapon Fighting Style can beat this, but those characters fall off fast in tier 2 as well (unless they...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I love playing Monks. The key is never use Flurry of Blows unless you have a real good reason to. I played a Monk 1-20 and I probably used FOB maybe 5 times in 20 levels. The PCs I see that use FOB a lot are typically not happy with the class. Also I think it works best with a Wisdom-first...

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

Yes, I love playing EKs. On this build, 4 levels on EK is not as good as 4 levels of Ranger. I lose favored foe and the extra subclass damage (whichever subclass I use) as well as expertise and the abilities from whatever subclass I choose.

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I was talking about where you said 1d6 damage with a 20 Dex and a +3 PB ..... that is a minimum of level 5. Your claim was that was better than 3 from using something else not resistant or that kills regeneration. At higher level (where you have a +3 and a 20 in your main stat) that is true.

    Or throw something.

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

You are not talking about a low level game here (i.e. newbies). Oil is 5 fire, not 3. Alchemists fire is 1d4 per turn if you hit. Acid is 2d6, Holy Water is 2d6 (against Undead and Fiends). 6.5 piercing with a +5 attack against something resistant is going to drop it to 3.25 and that is...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

This isn't it at early levels though, that is why a fighter is more difficult. They don't have spells, they don't understand how to do other things in combat. At higher levels when mutli-attack is online attacking with your weapon against resistance is still often the best course of action...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Many of them have humanoids but almost all of them have the kinds of monsters I talked about at low level. Among official campaigns, off the top of my head I know of low level encounters in LMOP, OOTA, TOA, Candlekeep, Saltmarsh and SKT that have monsters with resistance, immunity or...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

You should be able to find it quickly if it exists. Well the adventure I pulled that from had I think 12 in one room and 8 in another. It covers a 20 foot radius circle, not a 40x40 square. What kind of monsters do you think you are fighting at high level? That is what you are fighting at...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

I would not let them because it is against the rules and regardless of what I would or would not do, using something that is against the rules to prove that the rules favor Wizards is disingenouos. There is a fundamental difference between saying the way many people play makes Wizards more...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Multiclassing in 3E felt very restrictive to me with all the XP penalties and favored classes and other such nonsense. Add to that the wierd armor-dex and armor-casting restrictions and multiclassing was not very good. In 5E I can get heavy armor from a single fighter dip (as long as I do it...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

This is such a myth. Champion is not easy. Fighters aren't easy to play for a beginner. You need to understand movment, positioning, resistance, Armor class advantage/disadvantage. What is easy to play is an Invocation Wizard. Not saying it has to be easy, or that it is easy to build but it...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I don't think that is a hot take, I think it is old school. Classes today are designed for smaller groups and less specialization and think that is something players mostly like. Bank in 1E you needed to adventure with a Cleric and a Thief (Rogue) or you would fail, and no one wanted to play...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Clerics in Heavy Armor and Druids are born to tank. Warlocks go Hexblade, max strength and Constitution, Variant Human and start with heavy armor proficiency, Heavy Armor Master at 4th level. Armor of Agathys, then Blur at 3rd level, Shadow of Moil art 7th. Pick up Feindish Vigor and Tomb of...

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

Without Ranger, I lose martial weapon proficiency, medium armor proficiency, Shield proficiency, spell slots and I have to give up Sorc and Bard spells to get Longstrider and Absorb Elements. She would get 2d6 more sneak attack damage without Ranger levels, but she would lose Favored foe and...

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

This really rocks on a single class max Wisdom Fey Wanderer, but this character is only going to have a 14 Wisdom. Still nice though since she will have an 18/20 Charisma, but not quite as effective. This character is already going to rock Charisma with expertise from Bard and Rogue. I think...

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

I want to be able to do damage roughly on par with a basic Rogue of the same level when she attacks. This is a 1-attack a round character. With +2 dueling, 2d8 from blade cantrip+2d6 sneak attack+3d6 psychic blades (5 times a short rest), I am about equal to an 13th level Rogue (without...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

I am not wrong. A Fighter will take down 3 skeletons a turn pretty reliably. For a Wizard they typically need to be grouped together in an AOE, which is not common, certainly not round after round. I don't think I have ever seen a Wizard in play catch 8 skeletons in an AOE. If it is common...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

Yeah but it slows them down a lot more and if they go around it they need to brun movement for tat right? I am not saying slowing someone 10 feet per round is awful, but it is not something to brag about or something that is goint to save the day. That is not how it started. Go back and read...
