D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Fair enough. I have zero problem with that stance. I also have zero problem with folks walking if they don’t like it. Social game and all of that. I have—for me—found it is usually easier to explain the world and allow for exceptions. Though I know this is far from what others Might find...

D&D General Less is More: Why You Can't Get What You Want in D&D

Damn it! When I plunk down my hard earned cash, I expect a finished product! You are as bad as WOTC! What? Not compensated? Free? Wtf am I being PM’d? Oh…uh, gotta go.

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Damn I need to read these again. Last time was 25 years ago! And the movies interfere with my recall of the books!

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I will do you one better! Try showing how even 25% of subclasses are needed for a working game! Some things are for variety of play experience. Zero percent of prestige classes were “needed” etc. The game would function fine without rangers but is that what people desire?

D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

With respect to various perspectives the rules are secondary to the group. These are loose tools to help encourage RP in my opinion. I don’t think it comes up a lot because folks usually understand the game is first and this is a “help.” Rigidly applied like a to hit bonus is going o be a...

D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

I am still a little iffy. Maybe I will cancel Going to mcdonalds once and buy a book instead…

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

All good. There are many reasonable people out there if you look. Compromises can be had!

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I don’t like high maintenance when DM. By that I mean a character who must always steer the party to their idiosyncratic ends—-unless others enjoy it too. Then again a LG Paladin played rigidly is often unfun. I try to play unique but not to anyone’s detriment. That’s the key and some level...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I really would enjoy a gritty pseudo dark age game. I think it would be fun and I like the aesthetic. As you point out though, many players want options. No options generally mean no players. I feel for you! Though I will say I have found fun in adding some new things and when others do...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Back in high school my friend got the gray box of the forgotten realms. It was exciting because it seemed open and mysterious. And a bit different. Over time it really filled in and started losing mystery. I like room to explore and to not trip over a hero every stop in the process. For me...

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

You are not alone. I am going to play later with some lifetime friends! We really hit AD&D hard about 35 years ago!

The Ethics of Two Way Ignore

I like the two way block too. I previously talked about blocking people on a temporary basis but I find I can talk more about games and less about other things by keeping the blocks. Also I am only human. I think blocking and not engaging helps me to follow the rules with no problem. I have...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Really looking forward to whatever tidbits they toss out about Greyhawk. Realistically, they are not doing a full setting any time soon. So getting wound up about this sample setting makes as Much sense to me as getting mad that Elkhorn is on the cover. If you like it, it’s a fun blast of...

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

I don’t know man. Immaturity was not invented in 2024 ;) I remember player vs player nonsense here and there power gaming nonsense and pushing the limits in games on up to high school! We excised those players generally but I don’t think it’s so much a generational thing. Preferences do...

D&D General [+] Tell me about Greyhawk

The deities of Greyhawk just resonate for me. I do see the setting as a closer caricature of what I think of as an age of post Roman dominance with barbarians moving into feudalism. History majors feel free to take all the shots. I am after a feel and aesthetic whether reality based or my...

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

What amazes me is how it pleases a lot of people but depending on who you ask it’s either too old fashioned or has changed too much. My whole thesis is not that it is perfect but that it has not “abandoned” long term players by any stretch. Incidentally, I totally respect people leaving for...

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

I like alignment in the old fashioned way. It’s just not popular anymore. I like evil and good as cosmic forces. Ah well…

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

I actually agree. If we are not axe grinding, there are a lot of stuff that is 3e and AD&D adjacent on 5e. But…very traditional players aren’t happy either. I think this is because they tried for broad appeal… It’s like a projective test. What is missing depends on what you are looking for.

D&D 5E Long time players and 5e’s success

I am glad times have changed. It was brutal in middle America where I was. I hid for some time my gaming. Ridiculous! It’s funny…my friends now all have spouses, families, good lives. We have engineers, healthcare professionals, a lawyer, professor among us. But at that time it was the kiss...
