It's a pity. I do like Mark. Think he was a major driving force behind making PF2e what it is today, his design ethos is great. I hope to still hear more from him in the future, working on PF2e related stuff on his own terms.

Probably the additional commentary/reason - pay too low for the cost of living in the area and "if you want a future, step 1 has to be leave Paizo". That's another dead canary in the coal mine.
Which seems like a compelling argument for remote work in the RPG industry. But that's not much help to anyone who already moved to Seattle.

This. Paizo has a lot of great ideas people, but Mark Seifter was the only one who gave the impression of being great when it came to rigorous implementation of those ideas. It is impossible to know for sure who does what exactly, but as I say that was the impression.

incredibly sad to see him go.
FWIW - Mark isn't gone, he's simply left Paizo as an employee.
He has said that he will continue doing freelance work on several unspecified projects.
And he's heading up a new company, Battlezoo (publishing for both PF2 and DD5), which looks very cool indeed. I'm not sure how I feel about playable dragons, but the monster part harvesting system looks amazing. If only I had time to dig into it. -g-
