Pathfinder 1E Leadership Feat Cohorts

Hereticus

First Post
Our party just leveled up to 11th last night, and our druid wanted to take the leadership feat. Her goal is to attract a level 7 cohort, not an NPC but a CR=7 creature. RAW states that it is generally (meaning not always) an NPC with class levels.

Has anyone ever been in a game where CR was substituted for class levels for attracting a cohort?
If so, how did it work out?
What about lower level followers, can they be non-leveled creatures with a CR?

"A cohort is generally an NPC with class levels, while followers are typically lower level NPCs."

Note: The DM has stated that cohorts and followers stay home, so they do not adventure with us.

Taking a look at the SRD information on Leadership, the chart here says an 11 level Druid should gain a 6th effective cohort level. If you travel farther down the page, you'll see 5 listed creatures at 6th level. They are Demon, Dretch (CR 2) / Fostrog (CR 1) / Hippogriff (CR 2) / Pegasus (CR 3) / Drake, Shadow (CR 2). With all that, it's pretty clear a CR 7 is way out her range. In fact, after a quick look around, she wouldn't be able to grab a CR 7 till she druid 21+.

Based off your DM's declaration, Leadership is not the option for the druid. If she has an animal companion, you might point her in the direction of Monstrous Companion. It only lists Hippogriff (in the chart), but Pegasus is mentioned at the bottom. It really comes down whether she wants follower or a monster companion more.
