It also has "Dragon" in the title. WotC figured out ages ago that putting "Dragon" or "Magic" in the book title boosts sales (whichbis why they mandated "Dragon Magic" for 3.5).
I agree! I almost wrote in my post that I also believe "Dragon" is in the title probably helped sales of this book and Horde of the Dragon Queen: Tyranny of Dragons.

Wow, such bad assumptions.

"When we looked at the top 15 D&D 5E products, Curse of Strahd was the only adventure on the list."

So, options aimed at players and DMs sold better than ones only aimed at DMs? Literally completely expected and not one to draw conclusions from.

Then goes and treats the Spelljammer slipcase as only an adventure by treating it no differently, even though it has a bunch more stuff in it.

They are then surprised that the whole of D&D players is a greater number than the subset of D&D players who are also Critters. Again, if you are selling to only a fraction of your total audience, you will sell less than if you are targeting your whole audience.

There as basic flaws in their assumptions and foundational-level errors in their expectations that I can't take any of their analysis at face value. So I guess thank you for pulling together the numbers, and if I am ever interested in evaluating this I'll look at the raw data provided.

where do you get the impression that this was not expected? Certainly does not sound like that to me

"Number 9 is our first surprise: the DM Screen Reincarnated."
"Some folks may be surprised to see just one adventure in the top 15, but this is consistent with previous editions."
