D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Previews Include a Scroll of Tarrasque Summoning

Kids these days would just use a scroll of grognard summoning.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

It still perplexes me (though, tbh, it doesn't surprise me) that, this many months into the pandemic, the US still doesn't have a top-level clearinghouse of travel information on states' restrictions, dates, form requirements, etc. It would be helpful if some federal agency was tracking and...

Yeah. Or hand off the trailer to a local driver.

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Previews Include a Scroll of Tarrasque Summoning

I adore that ring of warmth. It's absolutely perfect! Brain-in-a-jar-on-a-suit-of-armor and scroll of summon tarasque, though, is kind of harshing my vision/hopes for this adventure. Hmmm....

WotC Adventure Begins: A New Dungeons and Dragons Boardgame

Hmmm... I'm only seeing a "This tweet is unavailable" message.

    D&D 5E Scary/Creepy encounters

Just for reference, here's a long-lived ENWorld thread from 2005-2010 that's got a lot of interesting creepy suggestions in general: https://www.enworld.org/threads/creepy.130133/

D&D 5E Do you make your familiars into NPCs/sidekicks?

Indeed. I'd think that a temporary familiar that changes every time would better be called an "unfamiliar."

D&D General Creatures Obscure & Underused

That phaerimm picture on the Netheril cover reminded me of the fihyr in the 3e MM2, a creature that coalesces from peoples' collected nightmares (called feyr in 2e). I haven't seen them used, but apparently they appeared in some of the D&D computer games. The 3e rendition always made me want to...

    D&D 5E Pocket Edition D&D Books?

Just for reference, here are a couple pics showing the relative sizes of the smaller format Pathfinder books, and the tiny format 1e rulebooks. (I've got a set of those tiny core rules for 1e, and can confirm the print -- while crisp -- is borderline microscopic.)

    D&D 5E Better Beasts?

    This thread is gold! 🤩

D&D General Why can Giant Eagles, Giant Elk, and Giant Owls speak?

Well, to be fair to the snakes, if you take a big snake and give it wings, you've got a couatl. And blow it up even bigger and give it some epic halitosis, then you've basically got a dragon. So snakes have that going for them. ;)

D&D General Why can Giant Eagles, Giant Elk, and Giant Owls speak?

(I don't have my 5e MM in front of me, so I'm just iirc'ing here...) It seems odd to me that a talking warg is in the 5e Beasts appendix, but a talking unicorn is not. To me it just feels like certain "beast-ish" monsters got shunted off into the appendix because of editorial constraints rather...

D&D General Creatures Obscure & Underused

I can't disagree! I was flipping through it yesterday to look something up, and there are some very... peculiar beasties in there. Like gorbel. It's like a grabby stirge that swallowed a hydrogen-filled dodgeball. How are these magnificent angry balls of explosive malice not in every dungeon...

Anyone having internet problems (10:15pm, UK time)?

I'm in Texas, and am seeing outages of several sites. Roll20 and Discord are both unable to resolve host. edit: Umm... looks like they just came back online.

Worlds of Design: Medieval Travel & Scale

Very interesting article and links. It can hard to make players appreciate just how slow walking is, and how big the distances walked can get. And any attempts I've made to do so feels somehow punitive. Any pointers on how to address these sorts of transportation issues in-game? It's easy...

D&D General Why can Giant Eagles, Giant Elk, and Giant Owls speak?

The existence of talking animals makes it easier to ask for directions when your party is lost in the woods.
