D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

There is nothing at all natural about "mystic energy" surrounding your body and the things ki does for Monks is certainly supernatural as well. This is like saying Ghosts are natural or psychics and fortune tellers are natural. You may believe these things exist IRL and many people do. But...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

You quoted a post I made, a post which was specifically about mechanics associated with the Monk class and nothing I posted on this entire thread is about rules symmetry between PCs and NPCs. Also the "mystic energy of Ki" is itself ostensibly supernatural and many of things that can be done...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Patient Defense is effective mechanically. I can't help that others don't think it is fun. At low levels Barbarian Range is very effective mechanically, so is Druid Wildshape. I don't find either of those things particularly fun ... should they be banned or gotten rid of because they are not...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

You don't like playing a Monk and you don't like using Ki for a defensive option when you do, but that doesn't make it wrong or stupid, especially when the players who use these "stupid" design elements are the ones who also have fun with the class. This "advance the game state" crap is a bunch...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I am generally against that. I think the Monk has everything they need right now and giving them more will make them OP at high levels. A Rogue does not get extra attack, stunning strike, ability bonus added to offhand attacks (not to mention being able to use a higher damage weapon and get a...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I think FOB is by far the biggest offender when it comes to wasting ki. Once you get to the top of tier 2 you can do patient defense most of the time. Later on you can do it all the time.

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

Some of the battlemaster maneuvers are clearly supernatural - Rally, Goading Attack, Menacing Attack, Bait and Switch and sweeping attack come immediately to mind. Others maneuvers aren't but those are IMO. The things with the maneuvers above is they are explicitly contrary to physics. You...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I am not a fan of the mobility feat on a Monk. Monk is MAD and you really need to boost Wisdom and Dexterity unless you had fabulous rolls at character creation. Protecting you from 4 or 5 AOOs a day is not worth a feat IMO. I also have problem getting an entire feat to do what you can do...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Not much extra damage though and not enough to overcome the loss to your save. Most subclass abilties with a save and stunning strike use Ki, so you want those to land when you use them, IME getting an extra 30 or so damage over the course of a day. This is particularly true if you pick up Fey...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

Actually the rules are not vague about this. It is covered under improvised weapons, and you can throw it 60 feet. A DM might rule that it has to be light enough to pick up, but as long as its weight is less than your lifting limit, RAW you can throw it 60 feet. So for a human character with...

    D&D 5E The Magical Martial

Yes and you can add battlemaster to that list of supernatural subclasses as well. That said, having a subclass offer such features is fundamentally different than offering through class. Same with races and feats IMO. I would argue the current fighter class does offer supernatural powers...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I would argue it is tier 2 only where they are weak. At levels 1-4 they are getting a base 2 attacks a turn using a bonus action which most classes aren't. A Fighter or Ranger with Two Weapon Fighting Style can beat this, but those characters fall off fast in tier 2 as well (unless they...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I love playing Monks. The key is never use Flurry of Blows unless you have a real good reason to. I played a Monk 1-20 and I probably used FOB maybe 5 times in 20 levels. The PCs I see that use FOB a lot are typically not happy with the class. Also I think it works best with a Wisdom-first...

D&D 5E Fey Wanderer vs Drakewarden on multiclass dip

Yes, I love playing Eldritch Knights (I assume that is what you mean). On this build, 4 levels on EK is not as good as 4 levels of Ranger. I lose favored foe and the extra subclass damage (whichever subclass I use) as well as expertise and the abilities from whatever subclass I choose.

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

I was talking about where you said 1d6 damage with a 20 Dex and a +3 PB ..... that is a minimum of level 5. Your claim was that was better than 3 from using something else not resistant or that kills regeneration. At higher level (where you have a +3 and a 20 in your main stat) that is true.

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

You are not talking about a low level game here (i.e. newbies). Oil is 5 fire, not 3. Alchemists fire is 1d4 per turn if you hit. Acid is 2d6, Holy Water is 2d6 (against Undead and Fiends). 6.5 piercing with a +5 attack against something resistant is going to drop it to 3.25 and that is...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

This isn't it at early levels though, that is why a fighter is more difficult. They don't have spells, they don't understand how to do other things in combat. At higher levels when mutli-attack is online attacking with your weapon against resistance is still often the best course of action...

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Many of them have humanoids but almost all of them have the kinds of monsters I talked about at low level. Among official campaigns, off the top of my head I know of low level encounters in LMOP, OOTA, TOA, Candlekeep, Saltmarsh and SKT that have monsters with resistance, immunity or...
