I wouldn't have thought that Fabula Ultima was inspired by 4e, nothing in it seems reminiscent of 4e's system, but I guess inspiration can take many forms. I mean, if they've listed it in the book as an inspiration then it must have been, but it just doesn't show in the game to me.

I'd certainly allow the half races in a 5.5e game, there might be a couple of little tweaks though, such as their ability score bonuses being equal to everyone elses.

I remember having the same issues with PF1e, the spells were really thematic but for some reason they decided to delay the spell acquisition, I always figured that a common house rule would be to allow them to get the spells as they unlock the levels rather than waiting. It's been mentioned in this thread, and I've mentioned it before in other threads, but one of the books I consider gold standard is the 3e forgotten realms book. As a setting guide it brilliant.
