INTO THE MOTHERLANDS Publisher Cancels Plans

System Shock launched in June 2016... maybe someday it'll be finished. But I only pledged $30. Software is risky. But a book... I suspect the production prices jumped with the Covid supply/demand chaos and there are plenty of publishers, but they're all coming in so high, the Kickstarter...

If You're "Permanently" Boycotting WotC, They're Not Going To Listen To You

It's not about boycotting WotC, it's about permanently supporting 1,500 other publishers. Long live... #ORCJAMMER!

If You're "Permanently" Boycotting WotC, They're Not Going To Listen To You

As a DM and a player, the new OGL wasn't of much interest. As a consumer that saw 1,500 smaller companies being bullied by 1 company, I'm left asking: do I support the monolith, or do I want a vibrant, diverse ecosystem. One or 1,500? I'm not mad at WotC. I'm indifferent. There's no reason to...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

It's so sad that instead of making DnDBeyond the juicy go-to carrot, they went with a legal whip. And it's so weird how WotC gets one licensed digital project out the door about once every other year, but Games Workshop has approached digital gaming and just cranked out projects with many dev...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

It's not a question of what they could win/prove in court. WotC can throw their legal team against a 3PP that is 5 states over from where they file in Washington state and had $100s in sales with no legal support. WotC can win by default with the 3PP just not showing up in the Washington state...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

    3. They can do OGL 1.2 again at any time. We know they want to. So moved on, never looking back.

An Unexpected Victory, Unconditional Surrender, and Unfinished Business.

The point of ORC is to have a license that no single company can unilaterally redact or alter. It's not to make publishing easier/simpler. It's to make publishing consistantly reliable as something you can do with your own created content.

An Unexpected Victory, Unconditional Surrender, and Unfinished Business.

This can all be true right now and I don't trust corporate executives. WotC can make this all happen again. And again. For 3PP and VTTs, #ORC is the only way out.

Hasbro won't back off from deauthorizing the OGL, and nor should they.

Paizo has a list of 1,500 publishers. Where's the WotC's publisher list rallying with them? I'd say everyone can see WotC has lost the entire jury.

Adam Bradford, one of the founders of DnDBeyond, comments to Wargammer

He's frustrated to see it... and there appears to be a complete lack of surprise.

    Just reposting from Heath's Geekverse

It totally sounds clickbaity -- but could be an underestimate. If Facebook suddenly revoked its open license for React JavaScript, half the internet would go dark. If Node JavaScript got revoked, the other half would go dark. It's almost impossible to find a front-end web dev position that does...

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

Head on over to the #ORC boards, those 1,500 3PP creators and legal teams would love to hear they have nothing to fear.

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

Yes! That's what I'm trying to get you to do. Say something! You said you wanted to! We're all here waiting for your good, adult reasons for saving WotC.

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

I gave you an adult conversation at your request, then asked: Here, I'll do your half and list the things WotC is promising us: nobody else is allowed to introduce animations in their VTTs Only Hasbro can add NFTs to table-top gaming Monetization of player's monthly table-top activity Want...

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

Wizards is no longer trust worthy. They want to change the rules and reserve the right to change the rules any time again that they want to. 3PP publishing schedules and kickstarters have been thrown into chaos, hurting hundreds of employees that started the new year thinking they had paying...

The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

    1. Never buying WotC anything. Period. They are to never be trusted again. 2. I'm not going to see the DnD movie. 3. Buy 3PP content + my wallet is ready for #ORC content. 4. I don't pre-order anything by rule, but I will pay to pre-order #ORC.

D&D (2024) RPG Evolution: The Fox in the Henhouse

Hasbro today is $9 billion. It would pretty much have to be Disney ($192 B), Sony ($112 B), Microsoft ($1.8 T), Activision ($60 B), Nintendo ($55 B). Spinning off WotC gets you 70% of that -- $6.3 billion. So you can buy 50% now for $4.5 billion, or attempt to split them to get it down to...

D&D (2024) RPG Evolution: The Fox in the Henhouse

Yes, Wizards has some amazing IP for table top gaming. This does NOT instantly make them an electronic gaming powerhouse. They are not a tech company. They have not built a rich, deep tech team for the last 30 years. From what I've seen, they've launched tech projects, then downsized the team...

I think I know how the morality clause acceptable(+)

    1. Wizards should not be the final arbitrator of what is offensive 2. People can create anything 3. Consumer platforms should not platform anything that violates the ToS they already had to create -- the system we already have

I think I know how the morality clause acceptable(+)

No they're not. They only sign if they're trying to profit on Wizard's web sites.
