Depends. Its fairly bad at optimization and mechanics. A lot of theory crafting, lack of experience in real games, lack of active players and left over baggage from previous editions. Theres maybe 6 people who are good at it. Reddit and discord groups are better for that sort of thing...

So the rogue is generally regarded as one of the weaker "strikers" beyond tier 1. Rangers good in tier 1 at least. I'm currently in the putting togather a new campaign stage. One player is interested in ranger or rogue. From previous game im coming down the magic loot. I was fairly close...

Yeah I dont pay to much attention to damage build theory crafting. Theres 5 "good" strikers and that depends on the level. How you build those strikers and how the DM runs the game also matters.

Bit hyperbolic comparison. Its not just mechanics i think its more real life. D&Ds a class based game. It takes time to level up IRL. Other games dont level up. I wonder if a year or two long game is typical. I suspect theres more going on. D&Ds a bit more crunch heavy, DM shortage...

They get referenced a lot but make some strange assumptions or biss obvious things sometimes. Theres 3 goes ones you generally compare notes between them and figure it out.

Most damage builds thats somewhat useful. Its objective. Best control for example is a bit more subjective or situational.

This thread could be interesting. Resident powergamer has talked about it conceptually due to new feats in Hunger and PGtF.

If 5.5 came out 2014 I would probably be saying its one of the greatest editions ever. But it didnt. They're getting close. Theres enough there one could use it to duplicate 3E, 4E or a modern simple system like Shadowdark if one was willing to do extensive rewrites. Like 2E backwards...

5E setting is FR.
