    Draw Steel News

Everyone is running away from the D20, huh? I am curious how much crunchier Draw Steel is. Because 5e is close to the top for me these days, Pathfinder 2 was too much. So Draw Steel falls on the wrong side for me, but it might still be interesting to me.

Yes and no ... I think? Still haven't played yet, so this is theory-crafting, but Solos look Fear hungry, as they can spotlight multiple times per GM turn, but that does mean if you have the Fear to spend you don't have as much of a Action Economy issue.

    Sinners (2025)

I'm still in awe over the scene, and have been replaying that song a lot. Need to rewatch the movie, but I loved it.

There are. The Fallen Warlord and Volcanic Dragon in Tier 4 are phased creatures. The Volcanic Dragon has three phases, it starts as Obsidian Predator, then Molten Scourge and finally Ashen Tyrant. Whether these can actually hang as legit Solo encounters is another question.

    Doctor Which

I've still not really dug into a lot of Classic Who, aside from Troughton, who I like with Jamie, but also is missing so much of his run. All of the relaunch Doctors have been great. Tennant to me, is probably the iconic doctor now, sorry Tom Baker, but it's true. Whittaker and Gatwa, though...

Phase 5 of the MCU is over

The Good: The Marvels, Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts, GotG3 and Agatha All Along The Bad: Quantumania, Captain America, Secret Invasion The Didn't Watch: Secret Invasion (I gave up after the first episode), Loki, Echo, Daredevil, Ironheart and What If 3. Which I guess just leaves What If S2...

It also allows for some fun dice pools for rolling damage because it does get capped on both ends. Rolling d20s for damage, like in the Codex Fireball spell is just going to be fun.

How many "steps" is too many?

The other thing to consider is how easily can steps be short cutted? For example, a big roll in Daggerheart or 5e means I can often skip the math. A 10 and 11 on your duality dice to attack? Yeah that'll hit. 14 on a D20 when I know the AC is 15? Don't bother looking up that attack modifier that...

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

Depends. If you are using already existing domains, it's pretty quick. Already a bunch of homebrew classes filling the grid. Longer if you are creating additional domains.

    PROJECT HAIL MARY Trailer 2025

I really enjoyed the book, looking forward to the movie. They've redesigned a lot of stuff, but that's cool.

It helps that Eberron can support a lot of frames. Depending on what you want to spotlight, you can borrow from 5 Banners Burning for a political intrigue campaign between the 5 Nations, Expeditions into Xen'drik or the Mournlands can focus on dungeon delving, can do a more noir-ish urban...

And not just because Eberron is my fav campaign world. Artificer is the main miss, I'd also write up a new ancestry for Shifters (I hadn't thought of using Katari, which would work in a pinch), Changelings and Kalashtar. Dragonmarks are a challenge ... I'd suggest pulling from 4e again and add...

I do wonder if the size of the GM pool should scale with more/less PCs? 2 PCs vs 6 PCs are vastly different. I guess having getting more Fear means the GM is more pushed to spend them.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Well, plans are actually moving on me running a short Daggerheart one-shot/couple of sessions adventure to test out the system. I'm going to run a short Robin Hood esque adventure that could be extended to a campaign if players dig it. (I blame finding Robin of Sherwood on Tubi and rewatching...

    Optimization and optimizers...

I have to second @Ruin Explorer here, this is conflating optimizers with munchkins. There's also a difference between theory-crafting and table experience. I know a lot of gamers that know about Pun-Pun and other cheesy character builds, but would never bring one to the table unless that was...

... Now you'll have to define your terms because to me, an optimizer is someone who works within the rules, I don't recognize this as the same thing you're describing. So then what's the problem? Net deck is primarily an MTG term, but it implies bringing a character (or in MTG a deck) that...

In a word ... YES. TTRPGs are a social game, part of that is following Wheaton's Law. "Don't be a dick." And tbh, I dislike the blanket assumption that optimizers are inherently out to ruin games. Pun-Pun dates back to 3.5 DnD and was a theoretical build of ... IIRC, a Kobold Wizard that could...
