D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Nope. Nope. You're right. I'm wrong. I blame a morning of shoveling snow before I had my coffee. I have no idea how I got that number. I somehow thought 100 minutes instead of 100 rounds. I guess, I have played too many different editions of D&D with different round lengths. o_O

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+] (Full & Revised ToC now included)

I have been prepping pre-gens for a playtest we have coming up and it is helping me find so many inconsistencies as I build characters!

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+] (Full & Revised ToC now included)

one thing I like about doing this project is being able to organize things how I like, for example I am putting a prominent sidebar in the Rogue Class chapter about how picking locks and disarming traps work, so it is clear and not buried in two other places.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

In the dungeon my in-person group is currently in that’d be 10 wandering encounter checks. 🤷🏽‍♂️ And where my online game currently is that’d be 5

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I wouldn't mind an edition where they leave out The Silver Chair. ;)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The news just gets worse and worse. I thought I had a gotcha, but the deplorables that understand nothing win again. 😢

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

If they are putting the Magician’s Nephew first (the worst news I have heard in a year of bad news- at least in terms of how it hurts my soul), then why don’t they put the Horse and His Boy second since it technically takes place before Prince Caspian.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Definitely a style difference because as DM ( and my preference as a player) is to not concern myself with a story and how it plays out. For me the story is what we talk about what happened afterwards and what I like about D&D is how things might/often happen that would never happen in a story...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

The thing I always say is that I don't "let" the PCs take a long rest. I describe the environment in which they might be considering to take a long rest or they might describe an environment they are looking for to take said rest (this assumes out in the wilderness/dungeon/ruins, though it could...

D&D General Friday Fun: What Are Your Top 3 Playable Species

I voted human, dwarf, and gnome. But gonna change gnome to lizardfolk (homebrewed).

D&D General What would you do? (Example from my game)

Heh. In one of the games I run, the 5th level paladin still uses chainmail because he can't afford better right now, nor have the party traveled anywhere where plate mail would be available to buy even if he could. 🤷‍♂️

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

I chose 4, because when it is hard, it is hard. For example, in a current game's most recent sessions, the party had to force march to find what they hoped was a decent place to camp for the night in some haunted fey woods and ended up having their rest interrupted twice (but managed a short...

(y)Yeah, that's what I meant when I referred to "available resources."

Some folks just don't care about sub/optimal choices, and that's okay. 🤷‍♂️🆒

D&D General What would you do? (Example from my game)

Not sure about the new rules. We play with house ruled 2014 rules. Small folk can’t use a long bow (in fact the magic of the halfling’s bow let’s it count as a long bow for him). I don’t understand this claim.

D&D General What would you do? (Example from my game)

I guess it just depends on if you only see it mechanically, where the rules of the game are perfectly reflected in the reality of the world and only those rules, or whether there are issues of available resources and aesthetic preferences which might effect those choices, which is how i prefer...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, I was wondering if OG was referring to a thread I've checked out from or one I never saw to begin with! There is only one person on my ignore list that is a prolific enough poster that I see references to them constantly, but ne'er a single post! They are like a ghost. 👻

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Oh and I have totally used purple glitter craft paint for weird cosmic swords, and have even coated something I wanted to be partially glossy effect in gloss mod podge coat to good effect.

HOLY CARP! One of my players is really into nail art and has considered using nail paint on minis. I should encourage her! And now I know to bug her for decals! :D
