I can't find any press release - if there was one, it's not from a place easily Googled. In fact, the few other sites mentioning this all cite comicbook.com as the source. So it appears this was something WizKids told just comicbook.com. In any case, comicbook.com definitely attributed...

If that was the case, they wouldn't be marketing this as a "reveal" or a decision made "purposefully and clearly", thus drawing special attention to the choice. They knew what the expectation was and chose otherwise.

Impression I get is more of a 10th anniversary celebration of 5e, rather than a 50th anniversary celebration of the game's entire history. But maybe there are more deep cuts that haven't been conveyed by reviews and previews?

Actually, that raises an interesting question - do we know if there's also a "modern" version? If so, how will it differ? Or is this perhaps the "modern" version and there will be a "classic" version?

Honestly, it would have been much cooler if they'd done male and female versions. Then everyone could have had the version they want.

Finished a light read, Bumblebee & Me: Life as a G1 Transformer by Dan Gilvezan (the original voice of Bumblebee). Short, and admittedly padded on top of that (there's an appendix for a Transformers episode guide), but there are some fun anecdotes about Gilvezan's time working on the original...

I'm very curious which multiclass combinations they considered "undesirable", and why. (And what means they used to prevent them from happening.)

Could be another reason to update the mudmen for this book...

It is billed as a WotC product, actually. And it's available under their banner on DriveThruRPG, not merely DM Guild. And interestingly, it is available from Roll20. All makes its absence from DDB kinda weird.

Re: The Lost City: Worth noting that Goodman Games' OAR version did provide 5e stats for oil and tiger beetles, wood golems, werefoxes, devil swine, and (surprisingly) giant shrews. That probably ups the odds of an update here (Wizards might even be able to directly reuse them, if they wanted)...
