    Winning and losing in RPGs...

This idea keeps popping up and has for awhile now. Not sure how far back it goes as I don't remember Jon Peterson covering it in either Playing At the World or The Elusive Shift. I've never understood the idea that you can win or lose while playing RPGs. People claim that since it's a game, you...

What makes a successful horror game?

The question came up on another thread but I thought it was worth breaking off into it's own thread. By "successful" here I mean that it works as a horror game, not whether it makes money for the company. So, what do you think? What makes a successful horror game?

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

The [+] is to keep things positive and prevent the same already tired arguments about Daggerheart and more narrative-focused play. There are plenty of other threads to hate on games and play styles you don’t like. There are a few people on here who play Daggerheart and want to talk about it...

Different Games for the Referee and Players

Here’s a recent video from Sly Flourish about playing multiple 5E variants at the same table. The video reminded me of a thought experiment I was working on a few years back based on the story of Dave Arneson running players through a D&D game with players having characters from different...

    Game ideas worth stealing…

That reads better than “in-fiction game elements worth using in other games” doesn’t it? The premise is simple. What bits of fictional contrivance to you take from one game to another? Two examples I regularly use are Cyphers from Numenera and Green Boxes from Delta Green. Cyphers are...

    Brainstorming a superhero Borg game

This idea was sparked by a post over on the What Does the RPG Hobby Need Now? thread. At first, superheroes and Borg games might seem like a perfect mismatch. But I think you could do a lot with the idea. And others already have. There's already a few superhero Borg games out there. To me...

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

I’m curious if plans are still moving ahead to release the revised 5E stuff under the CC-BY SRD as promised so long ago. Also very curious about older editions being released under a CC-BY SRD as talked about so long ago. Any updates on this?

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Pointy Hat’s Battlefield Actions

The [+] is to prevent endless sidetracks into whether video game mechanics should be backported to RPGs. This thread isn’t the place for that argument, have it somewhere else thanks.
