As opposed to the Glasses of Urza which didn't really catch on. Mana of any color can be used as colorless.

Bruh, get bloody over it. If Pineapple was so great, it would still be a thing.

I've always wondered what the percentage reduction in threads and comments on EnWorld would be if people were prohibited from simply arguing that the latest edition of D&D had to incorporate whatever their favorite prior edition had.

Time change. Tastes change. I might believe that MAGIC USERS should be consigned to d4 hit points and no cantrips, but I'm not going to spend my life arguing that point. If you really really really think that a prior edition was better ... play it.

OMG.

And I am not kidding…I was just stomping around this AM thinking “if you didn’t trade in your books…why not crack them open and use them?”

And then the thought occurred because you need other people to play too. And if you go around talking like the comic book guy from the Simpsons while reminding them x editions sucks, it might not just be the older edition they are avoiding.

In full disclosure I used to grouse about not liking edition x a once current edition and I was not contributing anything good. I should not have been crapping on people’s fun…and I probably was over on the WOTC boards when they were still a thing. Oh no! They shut them down because of me!!!

I think 5e is probably the "best" edition so far, but that doesn't mean that there weren't aspects of previous editions that couldn't have been included. You can lift the baby out of the tub before throwing out the bathwater.

I actually did get rid of practically all my 3.x books, because I had a ton of them, we needed the space, and I thought I'd lost the pleasure in the hobby and especially in D&D. I more or less literally cannot go back to that edition, at least outside the 3.5 core books, which I kept as mementos.

On the other hand, I'm not one of the people complaining that 5e isn't enough like 3.x, so it's not as though I should be running/playing the edition I specifically cleared out of.

I literally had a group conversation once in real life where this guy that none of us knew very well heard us talking about what we liked about different editions and butted in with what amounted to, "Edition X sucks because of the things you liked about it, which is why you should play Y Edition because it does these other things you didn't like about it..."
I'm pretty sure he'd begun arguing with himself after we walked away.

I thought that one of the best things to come out of 4e was the concept of ritual magic being available to non caster characters, if they took the requisite feat. Create a limited list for native non casters, then toss in some healing ritual magic, and it would make for some really interesting character concepts. You could have a Fighter who dabbles in healing magic, for instance, who can take care of the party during long rests.
